Zhou Wei (; born June 1957) is a Chinese zoologist, professor at Southwest Forestry College. Zhou was born in June 1957. He received his Ph.D. degree from Yunnan University in 2004. In biology, a species is the basic unit of classification and a taxonomic rank of an organism, as well as a unit of biodiversity. Sisoridae is a family of catfishes. These Asian catfishes live in fast-moving waters and often have adaptations that allow them to adhere to objects in their habitats. The family includes about 235 species. Taxonomy The family Sisoridae is recognized as a natural, monophyletic group based on morphological and molecular evidence. It is divided into two subfamilies, Sisorinae and Glyptosterninae (glyptosternoids). The Sisorinae contain the five genera ''Bagarius'', ''Gagata'', '' Gogangra'', '' Nangra'', and ''Sisor''. Catfish (or catfishes; order Siluriformes or Nematognathi) are a diverse group of ray-finned fish. Fish are aquatic, craniate, gill-bearing animals that lack limbs with digits. Included in this definition are the living hagfish, lampreys, and cartilaginous and bony fish as well as various extinct related groups. Approximately 95% of living fish species are ray-finned fish, belonging to the class Actinopterygii, with around 99% of those being teleosts. The earliest organisms that can be classified as fish were soft-bodied chordates that first appeared during the Cambrian period. Although they lacked a true spine, they possessed notochords which allowed them to be more agile than their invertebrate counterparts.
