Pryzm Nottingham is a chain nightclub located on Upper Parliament Street in Nottingham, England. History The site became vacant when Nottingham Prison was demolished. The building was constructed by the Midland Palais de Danse Company and opened as a dance hall and billiard saloon under the name Palais de Danse. The architects were Alfred John Thraves and Henry Hardwick Dawson and the contractors were W. and J. Simons. The building featured a globe and frieze of dancers over the entrance. It opened to invited guests on 22 April 1925 and to the general public 2 days later. History Luminar Group Holdings plc was established in 1988, with the opening of its first nightclub, Manhattan Nitespot in King's Lynn, Norfolk. The continued growth in the discotheque division and the creation of the popular Chicago Rock Cafe concept meant Luminar became a successful leisure company of the early 1990s. It floated on the stock exchange in May 1996. There was a large expansion of Chicago Rock Cafes in the late 1990s. Alfred John Thraves
Alfred John Thraves FRIBA (1888 – 15 August 1953) was an architect based in Nottingham who specialised in cinema design. History He was the son of Joseph Henry Thraves and Agnes Rosina Kraft. He married Florence A E Sharp in 1912. Their son Lionel Alfred Thraves was born on 18 March 1915. He was articled to John Lamb (architect), John Lamb in Nottingham and started his own practice in 1910. During the First World War he was a private in the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry and held a commission in the Royal Engineers, and was on active service in France and Belgium. He was in partnership with Henry Hardwick Dawson until 1927 and with his son Lionel Alfred Thraves from 1937, based in Whitefriars House, Nottingham. During the Second World War he served as a special constable in Nottingham. In 1943 he was appointed a housing consultant to the Ministry of Health. Henry Hardwick Dawson FRIBA (23 February 1900 - 14 January 1962) was an architect based in Nottingham. Architectural career He worked in partnership with Alfred John Thraves until that partnership was dissolved in 1927. Personal life He was born on 23 February 1900 in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, the son of Albert Henry Dawson (1868-1954), an LMS Railway Official, and Frances Mary Hardwick (1872-1949).
