Prima Donna (opera)
''Prima Donna'' is an opera in two acts with music by Rufus Wainwright to a French language libretto by Wainwright and Bernadette Colomine. The opera premiered at the Palace Theatre, Manchester, on 10 July 2009 at the Manchester International Festival. Development Originally, Metropolitan Opera general manager Peter Gelb and André Bishop, artistic director of Lincoln Center Theater (LCT), commissioned this opera for eventual presentation in New York City. By August 2008, although Wainwright had made progress on the composition, the Metropolitan Opera withdrew its support of the commission, reportedly because of disagreement with Wainwright over his choice to present the opera in French, whilst the Metropolitan Opera and LCT insisted on English for the language of the libretto. Rufus McGarrigle Wainwright (born July 22, 1973) is a Canadian-American singer, songwriter, and composer. He has recorded 10 studio albums and numerous tracks on compilations and film soundtracks. He has also written two classical operas and set Shakespeare's sonnets to music for a theatre piece by Robert Wilson. Wainwright's self-titled debut album was released through DreamWorks Records in May 1998. His second album, '' Poses'', was released in June 2001. The Time-Based Art Festival (TBA) is an annual interdisciplinary art and performance festival presented each September in Portland, Oregon by the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art (PICA). History TBA is modeled on similar European and Australian Festivals, including the Edinburgh International Festival, Edinburgh and Adelaide Festival of Arts, Adelaide Festivals. Megan Marie Hart (born 1983) is an American operatic soprano from Eugene, Oregon, performing in leading operatic roles and concerts in America and Europe. Education Hart was born in Santa Monica, California, and grew up in Eugene, Oregon, after the age of six. Hart has been interested in playing the piano since she was three, and began taking lessons at age nine. In addition, she played the violin for five years, and then started choral singing. In 1999, Hart attended the Oregon Bach Festival's Youth Choral Academy for the first time, led by Anton Armstrong and Helmuth Rilling. The Oregon Symphony is an American symphony orchestra based in Portland, Oregon, United States.
