Coat Of Arms Of South Ossetia
South Ossetia is a region in the North Caucasus that is under the effective control of the self-declared Republic of South Ossetia–the State of Alania but recognized by most of the international community as part of Georgia. The Government of Georgia has established a Provisional Administration of South Ossetia which it considers to be the legal government of South Ossetia. Both entities have adopted emblems to represent themselves which are of a similar design. The emblems consist of a red disc featuring a Caucasian leopard with seven white mountains in the background. The blazon is "disc ''gules'', a leopard ''passant'' ''or'' spotted sable on a ground ''or'' with a background of seven mountains ''argent''." The mountains symbolize the Ossetian landscape, while the leopard is an iconic inhabitant of the Caucasus mountains. Eduard Dzhabeyevich Kokoyty ( os, Кокойты Джабейы фырт Эдуард, Kokojty Ĝabejy fyrt Edward; born 31 October 1964) is an Ossetian politician who served as President of the partially recognized state of South Ossetia. The Government of the Republic of South Ossetia is the political leadership of the only partially recognized, but de facto independent, Republic of South Ossetia. Executive branch South Ossetia's head of state is the president, the current president is Anatoly Bibilov. The head of government is the prime minister, who is supported by a cabinet of ministers. The current prime minister is Gennady Bekoyev. In August, 2009, then-president Eduard Kokoity dismissed Aslanbek Bulatsev's cabinet. It was said that Bulatsev had long been sick and had repeatedly sought to resign. All ministers kept their posts for some time and work with new PM Vadim Brovtsev, though some were replaced after a while. 2022 South Ossetian Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in the disputed territory of South Ossetia on 10 April 2022. As none of the presidential nominees obtained at least 50% of the votes, a runoff was held on 8 May 2022, between the top two candidates, Alan Gagloyev and incumbent president Anatoly Bibilov. Prior to the run-off, Gagloyev received endorsements from the three candidates eliminated in the first round, Alexandr Pliyev, Garri Muldarov, and Dmitry Tasoyev, heading into the runoff against incumbent president Anatoly Biblov. Gagloyev went on to win with 56.1% of the vote, while Bibilov conceded defeat on the election night. Electoral system The election is held using the two-round system; a candidate would be declared the winner if they received over 50% of the vote in the first round. 2012 South Ossetian Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in South Ossetia on 25 March 2012, with a second round on 8 April. The election selected the first president since the country gained partial international recognition. Background The date was set by the parliament after the 2011 election was annulled by the Supreme Court after Alla Dzhioyeva was disqualified following allegations of electoral violations by Anatoly Bibilov. A deal was reached on 9 December 2011 under which the incumbent Kokoity stepped down at the end of his mandate and was replaced by Prime Minister Vadim Brovtsev as acting president. Though Dzhioyeva was previously barred from running again, she was allowed to register in the re-run of the election.
