Prensa Libre (Cuba)
''Prensa Libre'' was a newspaper published by Sergio Carbó in Havana, Cuba, from 1941 to 1960. ''Prensa Libre'', a daily publication in Havana, was the largest daily newspaper in Cuba. The newspaper was occupied and confiscated on May 16, 1960, by the Cuban government. Co-editors Ulises Carbó and Humberto Medrano, as well as Sergio Carbó, went into exile after the ''Prensa Libre'' was seized. Honors and awards *IAPA-Mergenthaler Award. (1959) Other publications When ''Prensa Libre'' wrote critically about the suppression of ''Diario de la Marina'' and the imminent loss of freedom of the press in Cuba, it too was seized by the government. Diario De La Marina
''Diario de la Marina'' was a newspaper published in Cuba, founded by Don Nicolás Rivero in 1832. ''Diario de la Marina'' was Cuba’s longest-running newspaper and the one with the highest circulation. Its roots went back to 1813 with ''El Lucero de la Habana'' (The Havana Star) and the ''Noticioso Mercantil'' (The Mercantile Seer) whose 1832 merger established ''El Noticioso y Lucero de la Habana'', which was renamed ''Diario de la Marina'' in 1844. Though a conservative publication, its pages gave voice to a wide range of opinions, including those of avowed communists. It gave a platform to essayist Jorge Mañach and many other distinguished Cuban intellectuals. ''Granma'' is the official newspaper of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba. It was formed in 1965 by the merger of two previous papers, (from Spanish: "Revolution") and ("Today"). Publication of the newspaper began in February of 1966. Its name comes from the yacht '' Granma'' that carried Fidel Castro and 81 other rebels to Cuba's shores in 1956, launching the Cuban Revolution. National Library José Martí
The National Library José Martí (Spanish: ''Biblioteca Nacional José Martí'') is the national library of Cuba. It is located in Havana and named after the national hero José Martí. This library was established on October 18, 1901. BNJM is a partner in the Digital Library of the Caribbean, contributing digitized materials to share with the world as Open Access. Information about the extensive holdings are available through WorldCat. Its current headquarters was built between 1952 and 1957. It has more than 4 million printed copies.
