Prabal Neog
Prabal Neog (Assamese: প্ৰৱাল নেওগ), aliases Benudhar Bora and Amar Moran, is the ex-commander of the 28th Battalion of ULFA, the banned militant outfit of Assam. Neog baceme commander of 28th Battalion of ULFA after the death of the battalion's founding commander Tapan Baruah alias Madan Das Neog hails from Lesenga village at Makum in Tinsukia district of Assam. His wife Bonti Lahon, who is also said to be an ULFA cadre, hails from Moran in Dibrugarh district. He joined the outfit in 1988 and was trained in guerrilla operations in Myanmar. Before his militancy life, he was the vice-president of ''Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad'', Tinsukia district unit. Makum
Makum (IPA: mɑːkəm) is a town and a town area committee in Tinsukia district in the Indian state of Assam. It should not be mistaken for Makum Pathar (the place near Digboi where, crude oil was first struck in Asia). It is the meeting point of three premier towns of upper Assam namely Tinsukia Digboi and Doomdooma. The National Highway-37 and National Highway-38 meet at Makum. Makum railway station is the easternmost railway junction of the Indian Railways. The rail line became operational on 16 July 1883. Tinsukia
Tinsukia (Pron: ˌtɪnˈsʊkiə) is an industrial town. It is situated north-east of Guwahati and away from the border with Arunachal Pradesh. It is the administrative headquarters of Tinsukia District of Assam, India. History During the reign of Sudangphaa (1397-1407), the relatively small Ahom kingdom was attacked by Mong Kawng, a Shan state in what is today Upper Burma. Mrinal Hazarika ( Assamese : মৃনাল হাজৰিকা) alias Plaban Phukan is the ex-commander of the 28th Battalion of ULFA, the banned revolutionary organisation of Assam. He was instrumental in leading the ‘A’ and ‘C’ company of the battalion to announce a ceasefire. Arrest and release He was arrested in 2005 from a hotel in Siliguri. He said to have assured the Police top brass of his ability to win over his former colleagues. Bijoy Das
Bijoy Das, known as Bijoy Chinese, is a commanding officer of 28th battalion of ULFA, the banned terrorist organisation in Assam. He hails from Nalbari district of Assam. He was working as an adjutant to Prabal Neog, the former commanding officer of the battalion, till Neog's arrest. He had also been holding the post of deputy commander of the battalion with Bhaskar Hazarika, another top ULFA leader. According to police he is a moderate who favours a political solution to insurgency in Assam. After Arabinda Rajkhowa and his followers joined peace talk with Union of India, Paresh Baruah ranked up Bijoy Chinese from Lieutenant to Major and appointed as Deputy C-in-C of Eastern Command of the ULFA. Assamese Language
Assamese (), also Asamiya ( ), is an Indo-Aryan language spoken mainly in the north-east Indian state of Assam, where it is an official language, and it serves as a ''lingua franca'' of the wider region. The 28th Battalion was the most potent strike group of the ULFA, the banned separatist group of Assam. The 28 Battalion was headed by late hardcore militant leader Tapan Baruah. It is also called the Kashmir Camp. It has its headquarters in Myanmar (Burma).
