Mrinal Hazarika
Mrinal Hazarika ( Assamese : মৃনাল হাজৰিকা) alias Plaban Phukan is the ex-commander of the 28th Battalion of ULFA, the banned revolutionary organisation of Assam. He was instrumental in leading the ‘A’ and ‘C’ company of the battalion to announce a ceasefire. Arrest and release He was arrested in 2005 from a hotel in Siliguri. He said to have assured the Police top brass of his ability to win over his former colleagues. The Assam Police played a pro-active role in releasing him on bail so that he could negotiate with the fence-sitting ULFA cadres. Tapan Baruah
Tapan Baruah ( Assamese: তপন বৰুৱা) (real name Madan Das) was the first Commander of 28th Battalion of ULFA. Killed on 20 May 2002, Tapan Baruah was widely known as a skilled hardcore militant in guerrilla warfare in the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom. According to conflict analysists Tapan Baruah was trained in Kachin of Myanmar. Tapan Baruah was also ULFA's Action Group Commander. Biography Born on 16 February 1972, Madan Das joined the ULFA in 1988 while studying at Nalbari College. He studied at the Debiram Pathsala High School in Nalbari district, and was 1986 HSLC pass out of the school. Prabal Neog
Prabal Neog (Assamese: প্ৰৱাল নেওগ), aliases Benudhar Bora and Amar Moran, is the ex-commander of the 28th Battalion of ULFA, the banned militant outfit of Assam. Neog baceme commander of 28th Battalion of ULFA after the death of the battalion's founding commander Tapan Baruah alias Madan Das Neog hails from Lesenga village at Makum in Tinsukia district of Assam. His wife Bonti Lahon, who is also said to be an ULFA cadre, hails from Moran in Dibrugarh district. He joined the outfit in 1988 and was trained in guerrilla operations in Myanmar. Assamese Language

The 28th Battalion was the most potent strike group of the ULFA, the banned separatist group of Assam. The 28 Battalion was headed by late hardcore militant leader Tapan Baruah. It is also called the Kashmir Camp. It has its headquarters in Myanmar (Burma). At the time of decisive, it consisted of three companies – Alpha (A), led by Jiten Dutta alias Moon Bora, Bravo (B) led by Sujit Mahan and Charlie (C), led by Jone Bhuyan(disputed). The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) (Assamese: সংযুক্ত মুক্তি বাহিনী, অসম) is an armed separatist organisation operating in the Northeast Indian state of Assam. It seeks to establish an independent sovereign nation state of Assam for the indigenous Assamese people through an armed struggle in the Assam conflict. The Government of India banned the organisation in 1990 citing it as a terrorist organisation, while the United States Department of State lists it under "other groups of concern." According to ULFA sources, it was founded on 7 April 1979 at Rang Ghar and began operations in 1990. Bijoy Chinese
Bijoy Das, known as Bijoy Chinese, is a commanding officer of 28th battalion of ULFA, the banned terrorist organisation in Assam. He hails from Nalbari district of Assam. He was working as an adjutant to Prabal Neog, the former commanding officer of the battalion, till Neog's arrest. He had also been holding the post of deputy commander of the battalion with Bhaskar Hazarika, another top ULFA leader. Paresh Baruah, also known by ''aliases'' Paresh Asom and Kamruj Zaman Khan, is the army chief of the ULFA, which is seeking Independence for Assam from the Indian Union. He is the vice-chairperson and the commander-in-chief of the United Liberation Front of Assam – Independent (ULFA – I). Baruah lives in Yunnan, China where he receives funding and patronage from MSS.
