The Poughkeepsie Colts was a primary name of the minor league baseball teams based in Poughkeepsie, New York. Between 1886 and 1950, Poughkeepsie teams played as members of the Hudson River League (1886, 1888), New York State League (1885–1917), New York State League (1894), Hudson River League (1903–1907), Eastern Association (baseball), Eastern Association (1909), New York-New Jersey League (1913), Atlantic League (1914), Atlantic League (1914) and Colonial League (baseball), Colonial League (1948–1950). William Daley (June 27, 1868 – May 4, 1922) was an American Major League Baseball pitcher from 1889 to 1891. He played for the Boston Beaneaters and Boston Reds. Daley started his professional baseball career with the Jersey City Skeeters in 1887. The New London Raiders were a minor league baseball team based in New London, Connecticut that played in the Colonial League. Brothers Theodore Laviano and Dr. Gerald Laviano owned and operated the team. The Raiders were the first professional baseball team in southeastern Connecticut since the New London Planters had dropped out of the Eastern League in 1918. Road to the playoffs In their one season of existence in 1947, the Raiders finished the regular season in fourth place with a 50-67 record and 31 games behind regular season champion Waterbury Timers. That was enough to make the playoffs. Eric McNair
Donald Eric McNair (April 12, 1909 – March 11, 1949) was a Major League Baseball shortstop from 1929 to 1942. He played for the Philadelphia Athletics, Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, and Chicago White Sox. McNair became an everyday player with Philadelphia in 1932, and he led the league in doubles that season. After his playing days, McNair had brief tenures as a minor-league manager and as a baseball scout. He died of heart problems a month before his 40th birthday. Early life McNair grew up in Meridian, Mississippi, and he grew up playing sandlot baseball on field in the backyard of Johnson Moss, a man who had become well known in Meridian for his success in the cotton business. The Long Branch Cubans (also known as the Newark Cubans and the Jersey City Cubans) were a professional baseball team that played from 1913 to 1916. It was the first U.S. minor league baseball team composed almost entirely of Cubans. Figueredo 2003, p. 107. Several players, including Dolf Luque and Mike González, went on to play in the major leagues. The Cubans played in Long Branch, New Jersey from 1913 to 1915, except for the first half of the 1914 season, when they played in Newark, New Jersey.
