Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust is an NHS trust which runs Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England. It is one of six centres used by the Defence Medical Services. From 2020 it is running acute services jointly with the Isle of Wight NHS Trust. History The trust was established as the Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust on 4 November 1992, and became operational on 1 April 1993. It took its current name on 29 July 2020. Scope The Trust's main site is at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, but it does provide services at other sites in Portsmouth and South East Hampshire. Performance In January 2014 the trust was the subject of an investigation by the Cabinet Office after the leaders of three clinical commissioning groups complained about recurring breaches of the cancer waiting time standard, delays in treatment and poor performance in the Accident and Emergency Department. Cosham ( or ) is a northern suburb of Portsmouth lying within the city boundary but off Portsea Island. It is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 along with Drayton and Wymering (mainland) and Bocheland ( Buckland), Frodington (Fratton) and Copenore (Copnor) on the island. The Queen Alexandra Hospital (commonly known as QA Hospital, QAH or simply QA) is a large NHS hospital in Portsmouth, Hampshire. History Early history Originally a military hospital, The Queen Alexandra (named for Alexandra of Denmark, King Edward VII's consort) was built between 1904 and 1908 to replace an earlier hospital which stood in Lion Street in Portsea, Portsmouth. The original buildings were of red brick construction, and the site was in a largely rural area, linked to Portsmouth and the surrounding villages (now suburbs) by a tram service. Petersfield is a market town and civil parish in the East Hampshire district of Hampshire, England. It is north of Portsmouth. The Friends and Family Test was introduced into the English NHS in 2013. It was a single question survey which asked patients whether they would recommend the NHS service they have received to friends and family who need similar treatment or care. The friends and family question: “We would like you to think about your experience in the ward where you spent the most time during this stay. How likely are you to recommend our ward to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment? Patients could answer as “extremely likely”; “likely”; “neither likely nor unlikely”; “unlikely”; “extremely unlikely”; or “don’t know”.
