Popasna
Popasna (, rus, Попасная, r=Popasnaya) is a ruined city in the Sievierodonetsk Raion, Luhansk Oblast, Ukraine. In 2013, it had almost 22,000 inhabitants. Prior to 2020, it was the administrative center of the former Popasna Raion. In 2022, the city was completely destroyed and occupied by Russia, which later claimed the region's annexation among all the other Russian-occupied territories. According to Russia, since then it is located within Russia's Luhansk People's Republic. History During World War II, in 1941–1943, the German occupiers operated a Nazi prison in the town. The battle of Popasna was a military engagement between joint Russian- LPR forces and Ukrainian forces in the city of Popasna in the Luhansk Oblast. The Battle of Donbas is an ongoing military offensive that is part of the wider eastern Ukraine offensive of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. Popasna Raion
Popasna Raion () was a raion (district) in Luhansk Oblast of eastern Ukraine. The administrative center was the town of Popasna. The raion was abolished on 18 July 2020 as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions of Luhansk Oblast to eight, of which only four were controlled by the government.
