Popasna Raion
Popasna Raion () was a raion (district) in Luhansk Oblast of eastern Ukraine. The administrative center was the town of Popasna. The raion was abolished on 18 July 2020 as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions of Luhansk Oblast to eight, of which only four were controlled by the government. The last estimate of the raion population was . During the War in Donbass the Ukrainian authorities lost control over parts of the raion to the Lugansk People's Republic. On 7 October 2014, to facilitate the governance of Luhansk Oblast, the Verkhovna Rada made some changes in the administrative divisions, so that the localities in the government-controlled areas were grouped into districts. Raions Of Ukraine
Raions of Ukraine (often translated as "districts"; Ukrainian: ра́йон, tr. ''raion''; plural: райо́ни, tr. ''raiony'') are the second level of administrative division in Ukraine, below the oblast. Raions were created in a 1922 administrative reform of the Soviet Union, to which Ukraine, as the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, belonged. On 17 July 2020, the Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine's parliament) approved an administrative reform to merge most of the 490 raions, along with the "cities of regional significance", which were previously outside the raions, into just 136 reformed raions. Toshkivka
Toshkivka ( uk, Тошківка; russian: link=no, Тошковка) is an urban-type settlement in Sievierodonetsk Raion (district) in Luhansk Oblast of eastern Ukraine, at about 30 km WNW from the centre of Luhansk city. Population: History On 12 June 2022, during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russian forces claimed to have seized control over the settlement. On 21 June, the Ukraine admitted that it had lost control over Toshkivka, claiming that it was only conquered on 20 June. Nyzhnie
Nyzhnie ( ua, Нижнє, pl, Butelka Niżna) is a village (''selo'') in Sambir Raion, Lviv Oblast, in south-west Ukraine. It belongs to Borynia settlement hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. The village is a sister settlement of Verkhne. Both used to be a single village, which was first mentioned in 1558. There is an Orthodox church built in 1870. Zolote ( uk, Золотé; russian: Золотóе; lit. «Golden») is a city in Sievierodonetsk Raion, Luhansk Oblast (region) of Ukraine. Population: . The town consists of villages that were merged to create Zolote. Currently these villages are numbered in a sequence from Zolote 1 to Zolote 5. Before the creation of Zolote they were named Karbonit, Rodina, Stakhanovets, Maryvka and Partyzansky. Hirske
Hirske (), or Gorskoye (), is a city in the Sievierodonetsk Raion of the Luhansk Oblast (region) of Ukraine. Population: . History Starting mid-April 2014 pro-Russian separatists captured several towns in Donetsk Oblast; including Hirske. On 13 August 2014, Ukrainian forces reportedly secured the city from the pro-Russian separatists. However, on 1 September 2014 it was recaptured again. Kirovsk Municipality
Kirovsk ( uk, Кіровськ, russian: Kировск), known in Ukraine as Holubivka ( uk, Голубі́вка), is a city in Luhansk Oblast (province) of Ukraine. It is incorporated as a city of oblast significance. Population: , . History The settlement was founded in 1764 as a village named Golubovka by the Russian colonel and native of Serbia, Peter Golub. Its history follows closely the history of industrial development in the Eastern Ukraine. When coal mines were developed in the area, the village became known as Golubovskiy Rudnik. It reached its peak size in the 1980s. When the area was recaptured from Nazi Germany in 1944, the settlement was renamed Kirovsk after the murdered former mayor of Leningrad. In 1962 the settlement was granted city rights. The landscape around the town still has pyramid-shaped manmade hills. Novotoshkivske
Novotoshkivske ( uk, Новотошківське; russian: link=no, Новотошковское) is an urban-type settlement in Sievierodonetsk Raion (district) in Luhansk Oblast of eastern Ukraine, at 52 km WNW from the centre of Luhansk city. Population: People from the town include Olena Tokar who made a career in Europe as a lyric soprano. The War in Donbas, that started in mid-April 2014, has brought along both civilian and military casualties.
