Ponni (1976 Film)
''Ponni'' is a 1976 Indian Malayalam-language film produced by M. O. Joseph under the banner of Manjilas, scripted and directed by Thoppil Bhasi, based on Malayattoor Ramakrishnan's novel of the same name. The film stars Kamal Haasan and Lakshmi, while M. G. Soman, Adoor Bhasi, Sankaradi, Janardhanan and Rajakumari play supporting roles. The film features original songs composed by G. Devarajan, while the cinematography was handled by Balu Mahendra and editing by M. S. Mani. The film was dubbed into Tamil as ''Kollimalai Maaveeran'' and Telugu as ''Kondaraju Koyapilla''. Thoppil Bhaskara Pillai, known as Thoppil Bhasi (8 April 1924 – 8 December 1992) was an Indian Malayalam-language playwright, screenwriter, and film director. He was associated with the communist movement in Kerala and his play '' Ningalenne Communistakki'' (''You Made Me a Communist'') is considered to be a groundbreaking event in the history of Malayalam theatre. Early life Thoppil Bhaskara Pillai was born on 8 April 1924 at Vallikunnam in the erstwhile Kingdom of Travancore. Muthukulam Raghavan Pillai
Muthukulam Raghavan Pillai (1900–1979) was a Malayalam dramatist, poet, screen play writer and actor who was well known in the role of Ashaan in Kavyamela. He was born in 1900 in Muthukulam, a small village near Haripad in Alappuzha District, Kerala, India. Known as the ''Akshara Guru'' of Malayalam talkie films, he wrote the screenplay and dialogues of '' Balan'', the first Malayalam talkie and ''Jeevithanauka'', the first box office hit in the Malayalam film industry. He is also the author of about 55 dramas and dozens of film stories and screenplays. In 1968, he acted in '' Viruthan Shanku'', the first full-length comedy in Malayalam cinema directed by P. Venu. He acted in around 150 Malayalam films and wrote ''Tataka Parinayam'' Kathakali. Srikanth (Tamil Actor, Born 1940)
Srikanth (19 March 1940 – 12 October 2021) was an Indian actor who has performed in around 200 Tamil films since his debut in 1965. He is also referred to as Venniradai Srikanth. He has played the lead hero in around 50 films between 1965 and 1979 and has also played supporting roles in films with actors Sivaji Ganesan, Muthuraman, Ravichandran and Jaishankar in the lead roles. In the late seventies to early nineties, he appeared as a villain opposite actors including Sivakumar, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. Gemini Studios was an Indian film studio based in Madras, Tamil Nadu. It was launched when S. S. Vasan, a businessman of many ventures (including the ownership of Ananda Vikatan) bought Motion Picture Producers' Combines from Krishnaswamy Subrahmanyam and renamed it. The studio re-opened under the name Gemini. Despite the common beliefs about a lucky racehorse or the astrological sign of his wife, it was the logo Vasan chose that led to the name. Subrahmanyam had shown him a picture of his very young boys, blowing on toy trumpets in the nude. Vasan chose the pose to craft the logo and hence the name Gemini—The Twins. Sathya Studios (formerly Neptune Studios) was an Indian film studio based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It was one of the oldest film studios and was formerly known as "Neptune Studio". The studio was bought by former Indian actor and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M. G. Ramachandran and renamed as Sathya Studios.
