Pomquet Beach
Pomquet (, ) is a small Acadian village in Antigonish County, Nova Scotia, Canada. Pomquet is home to approximately 900 inhabitants, mostly of Acadian ancestry. Many others visit and decide to make Pomquet their home for its beauty, sense of community, and connection to land and water. The community is nestled along two harbours (Pomquet and Monk's Head) separated from St. George's Bay by the barrier island that houses the unique Pomquet Beach. Pomquet's beginnings date back thousands of years, when the Mi'kmaq settled the land and made use of the richness of the harbours, the bay and the forests. Acadians affected by the Great Expulsion of 1755 and French settlers came to the area in the late 18th century and cleared the land bordering the two harbours for farmland. Tracadie, Nova Scotia
Tracadie is a small community in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, located in Antigonish County. Tracadie has close links with nearby Upper Big Tracadie. Led by Thomas Brownspriggs, Tracadie was settled by Black Loyalists in the early 18th century. Arichat
Arichat is an unincorporated place in the Municipality of the County of Richmond, Nova Scotia, Canada. It is the main village on Isle Madame on the southeastern tip of Cape Breton Island. Toponym The name derives from a Mi'kmaq word meaning camping ground, or worn rocks. History Arichat has a deep and protected natural harbour which made it an important fishing and shipbuilding centre in the 1800s. Jerseyman Island, which protects the harbour, was visited by Europeans fishermen as early as the 1500s.
