Pomona High School (Pomona, California)
Pomona High School (or PHS) is a high school (secondary school) operated by the Pomona Unified School District (PUSD) in California, located in North Pomona at 475 Bangor St. In 2002 and 2003, the Pomona High School football team won the Valle Vista League championship. Athletics On December 5, 2014, the varsity football team won the CIF Southern Section football championship. Pomona High defeated Paraclete High School by a score of 37-29 to win its first CIF-SS championship since 1951. Tank Collins
Derwin F. "Tank" Collins (born January 28, 1969) is a retired American professional basketball player. He played for Presto Ice Cream in the Philippine Basketball Association but is best known for his high school and college careers in the United States. Early life and high school A native of Pomona, California, Collins was not athletic as a child and gave up playing sports. When he was in seventh grade, Collins' father suddenly died. His mother forced him to play basketball to distract him from the death during the summer between his seventh and eighth grade years and would even play Tank herself. Walter Knott
Walter Marvin Knott (December 11, 1889 – December 3, 1981) was an American farmer who created the Knott's Berry Farm amusement park in California, introduced the Boysenberry, and made Knott's Berry Farm boysenberry preserves. Early life On December 11, 1889, Knott was born in San Bernardino, California. Knott's father was Elgin Charles Knott, a reverend originally from Tennessee. Knott's mother was Margaret Virginia Daugherty. Knott grew up in Pomona, California. Career In the 1920s, Knott was a somewhat unsuccessful farmer whose fortunes changed when he nursed several abandoned berry plants back to health. Janeene Hope Vickers-McKinney (née Vickers, born October 3, 1968) is an American former athlete who competed mainly in the 400 metres hurdles. Jimmy Verdon (born November 4, 1981) is an American football defensive end who was most recently a member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Hubert Delanie Walker (born August 12, 1984) is a former American football tight end. He played college football at the Central Missouri State and was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the sixth round of the 2006 NFL Draft. Bob Seagren
Robert Seagren (born October 17, 1946) is a retired American pole vaulter, the 1968 Olympic champion. A native of Pomona, California, Seagren was one of the world's top pole vaulters in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He won six National AAU and four NCAA titles indoors and outdoors. Indoors he posted eight world bests between 1966 and 1969. He was also the Pan American Games champion in 1967.
