Plexippus (spider)
''Plexippus'' is a genus of jumping spiders that was first described by Carl Ludwig Koch in 1846. It is considered a senior synonym of ''Hissarinus'' and ''Apamamia''. Taxonomy In Maddison's 2015 classification of the family Salticidae, ''Plexippus'' is placed in the tribe Plexippini, part of the Salticoida clade of the subfamily Salticinae. Carl Ludwig Koch
Carl Ludwig Koch (21 September 1778 – 23 August 1857) was a German entomologist and arachnologist. He was responsible for classifying a great number of spiders, including the Brazilian whiteknee tarantula and common house spider. He was born in Kusel, Germany, and died in Nuremberg, Germany. Carl Ludwig Koch was an inspector of water and forests. His principal work ''Die Arachniden'' (1831–1848) (16 volumes) was commenced by Carl Wilhelm Hahn (1786–1836). Koch was responsible for the last 12 volumes. He also finished the chapter on spiders in ''Faunae insectorum germanicae initia oder Deutschlands Insecten'' lements of the insect fauna of Germanya work by Georg Wolfgang Franz Panzer (1755–1829). Tamerlan Thorell
Tord Tamerlan Teodor Thorell (3 May 1830 – 22 December 1901) was a Sweden, Swedish arachnologist. Thorell studied spiders with Giacomo Doria at the Museo Civico di Storia Naturale de Genoa. He corresponded with other arachnologists, such as Octavius Pickard-Cambridge, Eugène Simon and Thomas Workman (entomologist), Thomas Workman. He described more than 1,000 spider species during his time from the 1850 to 1900. Thorell wrote: ''On European Spiders'' (1869) and ''Synonym of European Spiders'' (1870-73). Marek Michał Żabka (born 1955) is a Polish arachnologist. His main research area is the spider family Salticidae (jumping spiders), especially their systematics and biogeography. He has produced nearly 80 scientific publications, popular science articles and a book. The World Spider Catalog lists 25 genus names or synonyms and 237 species names or synonyms of which he is either the sole author or a co-author. Nine jumping spider species and one ant spider species have been given the specific name ''zabkai''. He received a master's degree in biology in 1978 from the Higher School of Agriculture and Pedagogy (Wyższa Szkoła Rolniczo-Pedagogiczna) in Siedlce – now the Siedlce University of Natural Sciences and Humanities. Wanda Wesołowska
Wanda Wesołowska (born 11 August 1950) is a Polish zoologist known for her work with jumping spiders. She has described more species of jumping spider than any contemporary writer, and is second only to Eugène Simon in the history of arachnology. Originally a student of ornithology, she developed an interest in jumping spiders while still a student at the Siedlce University of Natural Sciences and Humanities in the 1970s. She subsequently undertook study into the genus ''Heliophanus'' at the University of Wroclaw. Her subsequent doctoral thesis described 44 new species, and joined the staff at the university. She stayed until retiring in 2020. Her research included the taxonomy and zoogeography of jumping spiders, and has included extensive work on African genera like ''Menemerus'' and ''Pachyballus''. Plexippus Baro
''Plexippus baro'' is a species of jumping spider in the genus ''Plexippus'' that lives in the Ethiopia. The male was first described by Wanda Wesołowska and Beata Tomasiewicz in 2008. The female has not been identified. The spider is medium-sized with a cephalothorax that is typically long and an abdomen long. The carapace is brown with three white stripes and the abdomen is russet-brown with a single white stripe. The spider has a pattern of two narrow white stripes on its clypeus which give it a distinctive face. The copulatory organs distinguish it from related species, particularly the male's longer embolus. Taxonomy ''Plexippus baro'' is a jumping spider that was first described in 2010 by Wanda Wesołowska and Beata Tomasiewicz.
