Playdom
Playdom was an online social network game developer popular on Facebook, Google+ and Myspace. The company was founded in the San Francisco Bay Area by University of California, Berkeley graduates Ling Xiao and Chris Wang and Swarthmore College graduate Dan Yue. In 2009, the market for games played on social networking sites was valued at $300 million, consisting mostly of online sales of virtual goods. It was a wholly owned subsidiary of Disney Interactive, itself a division of The Walt Disney Company. On September 1, 2016, Disney announced the closure of the remaining Playdom games, ''Marvel: Avengers Alliance'' and its mobile sequel at the end of the month, effectively shuttering the studio. Wild Ones (video Game)
''Wild Ones'' was a video game published by Playdom. It was released on 18 December 2009 and closed on 28 August 2013, becoming one of Playdom's most popular games. Gameplay ''Wild Ones'' was a multiplayer action and arcade shooter game. It was available on Facebook, Google+ and since 2010, on MySpace. Originally, it was a last man standing game. This was later changed, however. History ''Wild Ones'' was released on 18 December 2009 by Playdom. During this period, it counted with around 300,000 monthly active users. This number increased to 2,000,000 by 2010. The game was inspired on the game ''Worms''. It also bore certain similarity to the game ''Crazy Planets''. ''(Lil) Green Patch'' was a Facebook applications#Platform, Facebook application developed by Ashish Dixit and David King that simulated a small garden on a Facebook user's profile. By tending their and their friends' gardens, the Facebook users were able to raise money for The Nature Conservancy to save the rainforest. In September 2008, it was rated as the number one application on Facebook, ahead of ''Texas HoldEm Poker''. In April 2009, it had slid to a sixth-place ranking. ''(Lil) Green Patch'' became unavailable to users on June 10, 2010, following a decision by new owners Playdom to discontinue the application. Acclaim Games Incorporated was an American video game company that offered free massively multiplayer online role-playing games on its website upon registration. The company was founded in 2006 and was the successor to Acclaim Entertainment in terms of brand name. After Acclaim Entertainment filed for bankruptcy, former Activision CEO Howard Marks purchased the "Acclaim" name in September 2004 for a reported $100,000.
