Plas Madoc Football Club was a Welsh football club from the Plas Madoc estate in Cefn Mawr, Wrexham County Borough, Wales. The club was founded in 2017 and played in the Welsh National League Premier Division. On 14 July 2020, an announcement via Twitter confirmed the club had folded. History A club by the name of Plasmadoc FC was formed in 1874, and through a series of mergers between various local teams is claimed to be an ancestor of the modern Cefn Druids team who formed in 1992. The team began playing in the 2017–18 season in the North East Wales League, a competition which it won. The following season, the team achieved second consecutive promotion when it won the Welsh National League Division One. Cefn Mawr () is a village in the community of Cefn within Wrexham County Borough, Wales. Its name translates as "big ridge".Mills, D. ''A Dictionary of British Place Names'', OUP, p.104 The population in 2001 was 6,669, increasing to 7,051 in 2011. The community of Cefn comprises the villages of Cefn Mawr, Cefn-bychan ("little ridge"), Acrefair, Penybryn, Newbridge, Plas Madoc and Rhosymedre and is situated on the northern slopes of the Dee Valley. History Cefn Mawr was part of the ancient parish of Ruabon and the area was known as ''Cristionydd Cynrig'' (or ''Cristioneth Kenrick'' in English). The Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) was a football league in Wales and operated at level 3 and 4 of the Welsh football league system in Flintshire and Wrexham County Borough, but with some teams from Denbighshire (Corwen and Llangollen Town) and Gwynedd (Llanuwchllyn). For sponsorship purposes it was last known as the ''Guy Walmsley & Co Welsh National League''. History The League grew out of the ''Wrexham and District League'' which ran during the early years of the twentieth century. At that time the senior clubs in the Wrexham area played in English leagues such as The Combination and the Birmingham & District League. Their reserve sides, along with local amateur teams, contested the Wrexham and District League (1903–1912). Plas Madoc ( cy, Plas Madog) is a housing estate and former electoral ward near Acrefair, in the Cefn community in Wrexham County Borough, Wales. It is located seven miles to the south-west of Wrexham, and contains The Land adventure playground, and a community-run leisure centre with a swimming pool. The area is one of the most deprived areas (top 10% most deprived) in Wales, and the fourth most deprived LSOA in Wrexham County Borough. Plas Madoc F.C. was a football club in the area, the club dissolved in 2020. History The land that the housing estate now stands on was once part of the Chirk Estate. The North East Wales Football League represents the North East Wales area at the fourth and fifth tiers of the Welsh football league system. It was established in 2020 as a successor to the North East Wales League following a reorganisation of the Welsh football pyramid. The league has two divisions: *the Premier Division at Tier 4, which offers a promotion route to the Tier 3 Ardal Leagues, and *the League Championship at Tier 5.
