Cefn (a Welsh word meaning "ridge") is a community in Wrexham County Borough, Wales. The community of Cefn includes the villages of Cefn Mawr, Cefn Bychan, Acrefair, Penybryn, Newbridge, Plas Madoc and Rhosymedre and is situated on the northern slopes of the Dee Valley. As well as the former industrial villages around Acrefair, it also includes some rural areas to the north on the slopes of Ruabon Moors. Cefn Mawr () is a village in the community of Cefn within Wrexham County Borough, Wales. Its name translates as "big ridge".Mills, D. Cefn Cribwr
Cefn Cribwr is a village and community in Bridgend County Borough in south Wales. The village is located about 5 miles (8 km) from the centre of Bridgend town, and inbetween Bridgend and Pyle. Description The village is situated on a ridge (as the name suggests) between Pyle (3 km to the west) and Aberkenfig (4 km to the east). Cefn Cribwr, as a community, recorded a population of 1,546 in the 2001 Census, reducing to 1,481 at the 2011 Census. The community centre, locally known as the Green Hall, was opened in 1924 and originally conceived as a Miners' Welfare Hall; it was supported by colliery owners and colliers. Many political meetings were held there. Labour politician and former Prime Minister Ramsay MacDonald spoke there in the closing weeks of the General Strike of 1926. Cefn Glas is an area on the northwestern outskirts of the town of Bridgend, Wales. It is part of the community of Laleston. Cefnllys
Cefnllys is an abandoned ghost village, formerly a medieval castle town and borough, near Llandrindod Wells in Radnorshire (now part of Powys), Wales. The settlement was founded during the 13th century by the Mortimer family in order to strengthen their hold on land in the vicinity of the Cefnllys Castle, with which the town was closely associated. The town was probably intended to become the primary settlement of the lordship and cantref of Maelienydd, but was unsuccessful and declined during the 14th century as a result of bubonic plague outbreaks, economic isolation and military insecurity. Cefnllys Castle
Cefnllys Castle ( cy, Castell Cefn-llys, ) was a medieval spur castle in Radnorshire (now part of Powys), Wales. Two successive masonry castles were built on a ridge above the River Ithon known as Castle Bank ( cy, Craig y Castell, translation=castle rock) in the thirteenth century, replacing a wooden motte-and-bailey castle constructed by the Normans nearby. Controlling several communication routes into the highlands of Mid Wales, the castles were strategically important within the Welsh Marches during the High Middle Ages. As the seat of the fiercely contested lordship and cantref of Maelienydd, Cefnllys became a source of friction between Llywelyn ap Gruffudd and Roger Mortimer in the prelude to Edward I's conquest of Wales (1277–1283).
