Harrow, Victoria
Harrow is a town in the Wimmera region of western Victoria, Australia. The town is located in the Shire of West Wimmera local government area, 391 kilometres north west of the state capital Melbourne, overlooking the Glenelg River valley. At the 2016 census, Harrow and the surrounding area had a population of 200. The first European explorer of the area was Thomas Mitchell and a monument marks the spot where he crossed the Glenelg River. The region that included the later Harrow townsite was first taken up as a sheep station by William Rickets in August 1840. A store was built on the site of Harrow in March 1848 by R. H. Evans near the pre-existing Foresters Inn. There is no record that the Forester's Inn was ever licensed. A Post Office was announced on 16 March 1849 to be operated out of Mr R. H. Evans store. Balmoral is a township in the Shire of Southern Grampians in the Western District of Victoria, Australia. At the 2016 census, Balmoral and the surrounding area had a population of 294. The township was settled in the early 1850s, the Post Office opening on 31 October 1855. Brit Brit, Victoria
Brit Brit is a locality and parish in the Shire of Southern Grampians in the Western District of Victoria, Australia. Etymology The name Brit Brit is believed to derive from the local indigenous word for plovers, common to the area. History Brit Brit was originally part of Gringegalgona station. In 1920 Gringegalgona was subdivided as part of the Soldier Settlement scheme for soldiers returning from the First World War. Blocks were subdivided into approximately 900 acre sections, and leased to soldiers on the proviso that they were improved, fenced and cleared appropriately. Brit Brit had two different state schools; the first being "Rosebank farm" school which was built in 1874 and closed in 1910. The second school was Brit Brit State School no. 1332. This school was first run out of the Brit Brit post office in 1927 before a portable building was relocated to Brit Brit in 1928. The electoral district of Lowan is a rural Victorian Legislative Assembly (Lower House) electoral district of the Victorian Parliament. It is located within the Western Victoria Region of the Legislative Council. It was initially created by the Electoral Act Amendment Act 1888, taking effect at the 1889 elections. It is the state’s biggest electorate by area, covering about 41,858 km². Lowan includes the country towns of Casterton, Coleraine, Dartmoor, Dimboola, Hamilton, Horsham, Jeparit, Kaniva, Nhill and Rainbow. The Division of Wannon is an Australian Electoral Division in the state of Victoria. History The division was proclaimed in 1900, and was one of the original 65 divisions to be contested at the first Federal election. The division was named after the Wannon River. For the first half-century after Federation, it regularly traded hands between the Australian Labor Party and the conservative parties. However, a 1955 redistribution removed most of the seat's Labor-friendly territory, and it has been a safe Liberal seat for most of its history since then. The seat's most notable member was Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser, to date the last prime minister from a country seat. Hamilton is a large town in south-western Victoria, Australia, at the intersection of the Glenelg Highway and the Henty Highway. The Hamilton Highway connects it to Geelong.
