Electoral District Of Lowan
The electoral district of Lowan is a rural Victorian Legislative Assembly (Lower House) electoral district of the Victorian Parliament. It is located within the Western Victoria Region of the Legislative Council. It was initially created by the Electoral Act Amendment Act 1888, taking effect at the 1889 elections. It is the state’s biggest electorate by area, covering about 41,858 km². Lowan includes the country towns of Casterton, Coleraine, Dartmoor, Dimboola, Hamilton, Horsham, Jeparit, Kaniva, Nhill and Rainbow. The current seat was established in 2002 although several previous seats held the same name. The current member is The Nationals' Emma Kealy. Emma Kealy
Emma Jayne Kealy (born 29 May 1977) is an Australian politician. She has been a National Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly since November 2014, representing the Legislative Assembly seat of Lowan. Kealy was born and raised in Edenhope, Victoria, where six generations of her family have worked as farmers. She gained a Bachelor of Biomedical Science from the University of South Australia, before living in the Northern Territory, Melbourne and Hamilton, Victoria, and then moving back to Edenhope to work as chief executive of the Edenhope and District Memorial Hospital. Since being elected, Kealy has established a moderate record in parliamentary votes and on policy generally. Despite her reticence towards expressing a view on abortion prior to the 2014 election, Kealy was a supporter of legislation to legalise euthanasia, same-sex adoption, and to restrict protests in the vicinity of abortion clinics. William Irvine (Australian Politician)
Sir William Hill Irvine (6 July 1858 – 20 August 1943) was an Australian politician and judge. He served as Premier of Victoria (1902–1904), Attorney-General of Australia (1913–1914), and Chief Justice of Victoria (1918–1935). Early life Irvine was born in Newry in County Down, Ireland, into a Scottish-Presbyterian family; he was the nephew of Irish revolutionary John Mitchel. He was educated at the Royal School, Armagh and Trinity College, Dublin, graduating in law in 1879 before migrating to Melbourne, where he taught in Presbyterian schools and read law at Melbourne University, gaining a master's degree in arts and law. Bill McGrath
William Desmond McGrath (3 December 1936 – 22 August 2018) was an Australian politician who was a member of National Party. He was also a professional Australian rules footballer. McGrath played in the Victorian Football League with South Melbourne, under captain-coach Ron Clegg. He played 15 out of a possible 18 games in the 1959 home and away season. He also kicked 18 goals, including five in a win over Richmond at Punt Road, with team-mate Bob Skilton matching his tally. At the end of the year he returned to his family farm in Minyip but would continue to play and later coach in the Wimmera Football League. In the 1979 state election, McGrath became the member for Lowan in the Victorian Legislative Assembly, and then the member for Wimmera in 1992, following a redistribution. Ray Buckley (Australian Politician)
Ray Francis Buckley (11 February 1912 – 27 June 1989) was an Australian politician. He was born in Horsham to salesman Stanley John Thomas Buckley and bookkeeper Esther Estella, ''née'' Berry. Educated locally in state schools, he worked as an insurance inspector before entering parliament. Elected to Horsham City Council in 1956, he was mayor from 1961 to 1962 and served on council until 1965; he was also involved in the local Country Party and was an organiser for Wimmera MP Robert King. James Edmund McCabe (7 October 1922 – 24 January 2019) was an Australian politician. Early life He was born in Nhill to farmer Roy Clifton McCabe and schoolteacher Margaret Maud Renkin, and was educated at local state schools. Johan Wilfred John "Mick" Mibus, known as Wilfred Mibus or Mick Mibus (14 September 1900 – 18 April 1964) was an Australian politician. He was a Country Party representative of the electoral district of Lowan (called Borung from 1945 to 1955) from 1944 until his death in 1964. Hamilton Lamb
George Hamilton Lamb (1 January 1900 – 7 December 1943) was an Australian politician. He was a member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1935 until his death in 1943, representing the electorate of Lowan for the Country Party. Victorian Farmers Union
The Victorian Farmers' Union (VFU) was an association of farmers and primary producers formed in 1914 in the Australian state of Victoria. Although initially formed as an "absolutely non-political" entity, the VFU became a political party in 1916, and nominated candidates for the 1917 state election and subsequent elections. In later years it used the names Victorian Country Party, then United Country Party and is now the National Party of Australia – Victoria. At the 1917 election, because the support for the VFU was concentrated in rural seats, it won four of the 11 seats in the Victorian Legislative Assembly it contested, gaining about 6% of the vote state-wide. Marcus Wettenhall
Marcus Edwy Wettenhall (26 January 1876 – 25 January 1951) was an Australian politician. Born at Carrs Plains to grazier Holford Wettenhall (a former Legislative Council member) and Mary Burgess Dennis, he attended local state schools before attending Toorak College and Geelong College, becoming an orchardist, wheat farmer and grazier. Nationalist Party Of Australia
The Nationalist Party, also known as the National Party, was an Australian political party.
