Pierre Waidmann
Pierre Waidmann (Remiremont, August 19, 1860 – Neuilly-sur-Seine, October 26, 1937) was a French painter and sculptor. He was a landscape painter and also a photographer. Biography Pierre Waidmann, born into a wealthy family and sensitive to the arts, moved from his native Lorraine to Paris in the late 1870s to study with Ferdinand Humbert and François-Louis Français. Ten years later he was also a pupil of Alfred Roller and Henri Gervex. In 1890 he took up residence in Paris, at 66 , but he still returned regularly to stay at the home of his grandfather, the collector (1802–1881) where he painted numerous landscapes of the Vosges region. In the historic 18th-century mansion where he was born, Waidmann created the interior decorations (especially marquetry and overdoors) in many rooms. In about 1884, he even set up his atelier there. Remiremont
Remiremont (; german: Romberg or ) is a town and commune in the Vosges department, northeastern France, situated in southern Grand Est. The town has been an abbatial centre since the 7th century, is an economic crossroads of the Moselle and Moselotte valleys, and is also a stepping stone for tourists wishing to explore the Vosges and neighbouring Alsace. Haroué
Haroué () is a commune in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in north-eastern France. Geography The river Madon flows through the commune. Historical Features The Château d'Haroué was constructed between 1720 and 1732 by Germain Boffrand for Prince Marc de Beauvau, Viceroy of Tuscany. The architect had to integrate into his plans the four towers and the moat of the predating medieval castle of François de Bassompierre. The decoration of the castle was entrusted to artists from the Lorraine region: Jean Lamour (1698-1771) for the gates, the balcony, and the banister, Pillement (1698-1771) for the interior painting of one of the towers, and Barthélemy Guibal (1699-1757), the sculptor of the fountains of Place Stanislas in Nancy, for the statuary. Mortagne, Vosges
Mortagne () is a commune in the Vosges department in Grand Est in northeastern France. It shares its name with the eponymous river which borders the commune on its south-eastern side. Geography The commune is positioned on undulating lower slopes of the Vosges Mountains. The settlements in the commune are dispersed across various hamlets that include l'Orme, le Bout du Dessus, le Bout du Milieu and le Bout du Dessous. The commune is crossed by the little River Mossoux, a tributary of the Mortagne which itself feeds into the Meurthe.
