Pierre Camara
Pierre Camara (born 15 September 1965) is a retired French triple jumper, best known for his triple jump gold medal at the 1993 World Indoor Championships. In the triple jump final of those championships, he jumped 17.59 m, which was a new championship record and a new French indoor record. His French indoor record of 17.59 m was broken in 2010 by Teddy Tamgho. Athletics At The 1993 Mediterranean Games
At the 1993 Mediterranean Games, the athletics events were held in Narbonne, Languedoc-Roussillon, France from 17–24 June 1993. A total of 36 events were contested, of which 20 by male and 16 by female athletes. The host nation France easily topped the medal table, taking 15 gold medals and 38 medals overall (over a third of the total). Italy was the next most successful nation, with six golds among its 16 medals. Greece and Morocco was third and fourth, respectively, each having won four gold medals. Of the thirteen nations who entered athletes into the tournament, only Albania and Cyprus did not reach the medal table. The event programme was reduced for the 1993 games: the women's 4×400 metres relay and the men's hammer throw, decathlon and 20 kilometres walk competitions were not held that year. Athletics At The 1992 Summer Olympics – Men's Triple Jump
The final of the men's triple jump event at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain was held on August 3, 1992. There were 47 participating athletes from 32 nations, with two qualifying groups. The maximum number of athletes per nation had been set at 3 since the 1930 Olympic Congress. Mike Conley Sr. set a new Olympic record with 17.63 m. He also jumped 18.17 m which would also improve the standing world record, but this jump had wind assistance 2.1 m/s. The top twelve and ties, and all those reaching 17.00 metres advanced to the final. The qualification round was held on August 1, 1992. Conley's gold was the United States's fifth victory in the men's triple jump, surpassing the Soviet Union's four. Conley was the 11th man to win two medals in the event, and the first to do so in non-consecutive Games. Frank Rutherford's bronze was the first medal for the Bahamas in the event. At the 1991 Mediterranean Games, the athletics events were held at the Olympic Stadium in Athens, Greece. A total of 38 events were contested, of which 23 by male and 15 by female athletes. An exhibition heptathlon also took place, with Algeria's Yasmina Azzizi being the only athlete to compete. Several hundred athletes from fourteen Mediterranean nations took part in the competition. Nine nations reached the medal table, with eight of them having an athlete top the podium. Italy was dominant, taking eleven gold medals and 38 overall.
