Athletics At The 1991 Mediterranean Games
At the 1991 Mediterranean Games, the athletics events were held at the Olympic Stadium in Athens, Greece. A total of 38 events were contested, of which 23 by male and 15 by female athletes. An exhibition heptathlon also took place, with Algeria's Yasmina Azzizi being the only athlete to compete. Several hundred athletes from fourteen Mediterranean nations took part in the competition. Nine nations reached the medal table, with eight of them having an athlete top the podium. Italy was dominant, taking eleven gold medals and 38 overall. France was a clear second with nine golds from a haul of 25 medals. Algeria won the next highest number of golds (five), while Spain had the third largest overall medals with thirteen. Gabriella Dorio (born 27 June 1957 in Veggiano, Veneto) is an Italian former athlete and Olympic gold winner. She won two medals, at senior level, at the International athletics competitions. Biography She first participated in the 1976 Summer Olympics, placing sixth in the 1500 metres race then ran the same event and placed fifth in Summer Olympics 4 years later. She won the gold medal at the 1982 European Indoor Championships, the bronze medal at the 1982 European Championships, and finally the gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, beating the Romanians Doina Melinte (silver) and Maricica Puică (bronze). Alessandro Andrei
Alessandro Andrei (born 3 January 1959) is an Italian former shot putter. He was born in Florence. Biography Andrei threw with his right hand, using the glide technique (at time many elite-level shot putters had switched to the spin/rotation style.) Andrei won the gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles, California. In 1987 he broke the world record three times in the same competition with successive throws of 22.72, 22.84 & 22.91 m (and finishing the sequence with a throw of 22.74 m). 100 Metres Hurdles
The 100 metres hurdles, or 100-meter hurdles, is a track and field event run mainly by women (the male counterpart is the 110 metres hurdles). For the race, ten Hurdling, hurdles of a height of are placed along a straight course of . The first hurdle is placed after a run-up of 13 metres from the starting line. The next 9 hurdles are set at a distance of 8.5 metres from each other, and the home stretch from the last hurdle to the finish line is 10.5 metres long. The hurdles are set up so that they will fall over if bumped into by the runner, but weighted so this is disadvantageous. Agnese Maffeis (born 9 March 1965, in Bergamo) is an Italian discus thrower and shot putter. She won six medals, at senior level, at the International athletics competitions. She has 73 caps in national team from 1981 to 2003, second Italian athlete of all-time behind Marisa Masullo that have 79 caps. Biography She finished twelfth at the 1989 World Indoor Championships and eighth at the 1997 World Championships. She also competed in the 1996 Olympics, but failed to qualify from her pool. The 100 metres, or 100-meter dash, is a sprint race in track and field competitions. The shortest common outdoor running distance, the dash is one of the most popular and prestigious events in the sport of athletics.
