Phil Smith (Australian Footballer)
Philip James Smith (15 October 1946 – 31 January 2010) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Geelong Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL), the West Perth Football Club in the West Australian National Football League (WANFL) and the Woodville Football Club in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). Smith was recruited from Geelong Football League (GFL) club Newtown & Chilwell and, while making his senior VFL debut in 1968, he spent most of his time at Geelong in the reserves, making just four senior appearances in his first two seasons. Smith managed eight VFL games in the 1970 VFL season from which he kicked all of his 17 career goals. West Perth recruited Smith in 1971 and, playing as a full-forward, he was their leading-goalkicker for three successive seasons. Philip Alan Smith
Philip Alan Smith (April 2, 1920 – October 10, 2010) was the seventh bishop of New Hampshire in the Episcopal Church. Education Smith was born on April 2, 1920, in Belmont, Massachusetts, the son of Herbert Smith and Elizabeth McDonald. He was educated at Belmont High School after which he enrolled in a B.A course with Harvard University from which he graduated in 1942. During the war, Smith served as an officer with an Army antiaircraft unit in Europe and received the Bronze Star Medal. In 1949 he graduated with a Bachelor of Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary. Between 1957 and 1958 he studied at St Augustine's College, Canterbury in England. He received his Doctor of Divinity from the Virginia Seminary in 1970. Ordination Smith was ordained deacon in June 1949 and priest in December 1949. Friends of the British Overseas Territories (FOTBOT) is a charitable and youth organisation based in the United Kingdom that seeks to raise awareness of the fourteen British Overseas Territories (BOTs) by promoting their culture, history and bio-diversity. As an educational charity, it facilitates visits to BOTs for mainland British students, and has also pledged to alleviate certain financial constraints faced in the UK by students from the BOTs themselves. Philip Smith (criminal)
Philip John Smith (born 10 July 1965) is an English spree killer serving a life sentence for the murders of three women in Birmingham in November 2000. A former fairground worker employed at the Rainbow pub in Digbeth, Smith killed his victims over a four-day period. All three victims were mutilated almost beyond recognition, but Smith was quickly identified as the killer on the strength of overwhelming evidence. Smith's first victim was Jodie Hyde, a recovering butane gas addict whom he met at the Rainbow before killing her hours later. He is thought to have strangled her before setting her body on fire near a recreation ground. Three days later, he met mother-of-three Rosemary Corcoran at the same public house and drove her to a rural location, where he bludgeoned her to death and drove over the body. Philip Sidney Smith
Philip Sidney Smith (28 July 1877 - 10 May 1949) was an American geologist and specialist in the geology of Alaska. On 28 July 1877, Smith was born in Medford, Massachusetts. He attended Harvard University, and under the influence of Nathaniel Shaler, entered the field of geology. He earned his Ph.D. from Harvard in 1904, and joined the Alaskan division of the United States Geological Survey in 1906 under Alfred H. Brooks. In 1925, he was promoted to Chief Alaskan Geologist. In 1929, he served as an official delegate to the Fourth Pacific Scientific Congress in Java, and in 1937, he was Chairman of the US delegation to the Seventeenth International Geological Congress in the Soviet Union. He served as Governor of the Arctic Institute of North America from 1944 until his death. Smith died of pneumonia on 10 May 1949 in St. Albans, Vermont. He was buried in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. Phillip Hagar Smith (April 29, 1905 in Lexington, Massachusetts – August 29, 1987 in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey) was an electrical engineer, who became famous for his invention of the Smith chart. Smith graduated from Tufts College in 1928 with a BS degree in electrical engineering. While working for Bell Telephone Laboratories, he invented his eponymous Smith chart (which was also invented independently in 1937 by Mizuhashi Tosaku). When asked why he invented the chart, Smith explained, "From the time I could operate a slide rule, I've been interested in graphical representations of mathematical relationships." In 1969 he published the book ''Electronic Applications of the Smith Chart: In Waveguide, Circuit, and Component Analysis'', a comprehensive work on the subject. He retired from Bell Labs in 1970. Philip Edward Smith (January 1, 1884 – December 8, 1970) was an American endocrinologist who is best known for his work studying the pituitary gland. He developed methods for removing pituitary glands from tadpoles and rats and showed that such removal resulted in cessation of growth, and atrophy of other endocrine glands such as the adrenal cortex and the reproductive organs. After graduating with a PhD in Anatomy from Cornell University in 1912, he joined the Department of Anatomy, Berkeley California until 1926. From 1927 to 1952 he served as Professor of Anatomy at the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University.
