Phil Smith (Australian Footballer)
Philip James Smith (15 October 1946 – 31 January 2010) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Geelong Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL), the West Perth Football Club in the West Australian National Football League (WANFL) and the Woodville Football Club in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). Smith was recruited from Geelong Football League (GFL) club Newtown & Chilwell and, while making his senior VFL debut in 1968, he spent most of his time at Geelong in the reserves, making just four senior appearances in his first two seasons. Smith managed eight VFL games in the 1970 VFL season from which he kicked all of his 17 career goals. West Perth recruited Smith in 1971 and, playing as a full-forward, he was their leading-goalkicker for three successive seasons. Newtown & Chilwell Football Club
Newtown & Chilwell Sporting Club, nicknamed the ''Eagles'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the inner western suburb of Newtown, Victoria. The club teams currently compete in the regional Geelong Football Netball League, playing their home games at Elderslie Reserve. 1968 VFL Season
The 1968 VFL season was the 72nd season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 15 April until 28 September, and comprised a 20-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The premiership was won by the Carlton Football Club for the ninth time, after it defeated by three points in the 1968 VFL Grand Final. Premiership season In 1968, the VFL competition consisted of twelve teams of 18 on-the-field players each, plus two substitute players, known as the 19th man and the 20th man. A player could be substituted for any reason; however, once substituted, a player could not return to the field of play under any circumstances. Brad Smith (footballer Born 1979)
Bradley Phillip Smith (born 11 May 1979) is a former Australian rules footballer, who played for in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) from 1998–2009. He was also listed with the West Coast Eagles in the Australian Football League (AFL) from 2005–06, but was not able to play a single game for the club due to two knee reconstructions. Early career Smith is the son of former Geelong and West Perth forward Phil Smith. He considered nominating for the 1997 AFL Draft, but other interests put his AFL career on hold. Over time he began to re-emerge as a solid tall forward playing for Subiaco in the WAFL, kicking 109 goals in 2004, winning the Bernie Naylor Medal for leading goalkicker. Cancer
Cancer is a group of diseases involving abnormal cell growth with the potential to invade or spread to other parts of the body. These contrast with benign tumors, which do not spread. Possible signs and symptoms include a lump, abnormal bleeding, prolonged cough, unexplained weight loss, and a change in bowel movements. Subiaco Football Club
The Subiaco Football Club, nicknamed the Lions and known before 1973 as the ''Maroons'', is an Australian rules football club in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) and WAFL Women's (WAFLW). It was founded in 1896, and admitted to the WAFL in 1901, along with North Fremantle. The club is currently based at Leederville Oval, having previously played at Subiaco Oval. The 1970 VFL season was the 74th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, and ran from 4 April until 26 September. It was the first season to play comprise a 22-game home-and-away season, which became the standard for the following fifty years, and which was followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The season saw the opening of the league's privately owned stadium, VFL Park, in Mulgrave.
