Peter Wilenski
Peter Stephen Wilenski, (10 May 1939 – 3 November 1994) was a senior Australian public servant and ambassador. He was a champion of women's rights and equal opportunity. Early life Peter Wilenski was born in Łódź, Poland on 10 May 1939. He came to Australia in 1943 as a Jewish refugee, due to World War II conflict and persecution of Jewish people in his home country. His family spent time in a Soviet internment camp before coming to Australia. For high school education, he attended Sydney Boys High School. He later studied at the University of Sydney where he met his first wife, Gail Radford, when both were student politicians. Career Wilenski entered the Australian Public Service as a Foreign Affairs Officer (1967–71). Łódź
Łódź, also rendered in English as Lodz, is a city in central Poland and a former industrial centre. It is the capital of Łódź Voivodeship, and is located approximately south-west of Warsaw. The ''Australian Journal of Politics and History'' is a quarterly peer-reviewed academic journal that publishes articles about history, political studies, and international affairs, concentrating on Australia, the Asia-Pacific region, and modern Europe. Richard Woolcott
Richard Arthur Woolcott (born 11 June 1927) is a retired Australian public servant, diplomat, author and commentator. Early years Woolcott was educated at Geelong Grammar School, Cranbrook School and the University of Melbourne, before becoming a member of the Australian Diplomatic Service. Woolcott's first posting in the diplomatic service was as Third Secretary in the Australian Embassy Moscow. Woolcott married Danish-born Birgit Christensen in London, England in July 1952 and the couple moved to Moscow shortly after the wedding. During the posting which lasted until 1954, Joseph Stalin died in March 1953. Collin Freeland
Collin William Martin Freeland (born 31 January 1933) is a former senior Australian public servant and policymaker. He is best known for his time heading the Department of Aviation and the Department of Transport in the 1980s. Life and career Collin Freeland was born in the 1930s. Charles Christopher Halton (4 March 193216 October 2013) was a senior Australian public servant. Life and career Charles Halton was born on 4 March 1932 in Yorkshire, Northern England. As an engineer in England in the 1950s and 60s, Halton was associated with the development of the Concorde and the guidance system of the Bristol Bloodhound. John Enfield
John David Enfield, (1934 – 11 August 1992) was a senior Australian Public Service official and administrator. Life and career John Enfield was born in 1934. He studied engineering at the University of Sydney. Enfield joined the Department of Defence in 1962, working in the department's systems analysis branch on weapons effectiveness and acquisitions. He moved to the Department of the Treasury in 1972 to head the Transport and Communications Branch, including as part of the Second Sydney Airport Committee. He later moved to the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, into a role as a Deputy Secretary until 1983. Whilst Secretary of the Department of Territories and Local Government, and later the Department of Territories, Enfield established the financial path for the Australian Capital Territory to self-government. She was the first woman in the Australian Public Service to be appointed as a Secretary of an Australian government department. Kenneth Norman Jones (17 April 1924 – 19 January 2022) was an Australian senior public servant. Early life Kenneth Jones was born in Bundaberg, Queensland, on 17 April 1924. He attended the University of Queensland, graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce. Career Jones began his Commonwealth Public Service career in 1941 when he joined the Official Receiver's Office in Queensland. He was appointed to his first Secretary role in January 1973, at the Department of Education.
