Peter Lloyd (tennis)
Peter Lloyd is an Australian former professional tennis player. Lloyd grew up in Canberra and was one of two players from the ACT, along with Steve Maloney, to take up a scholarship in 1978 to attend the University of Georgia. He played collegiate tennis at Georgia for four years and was an All-SEC selection in 1980. Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. The object of the game is to manoeuvre the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return. The player who is unable to return the ball validly will not gain a point, while the opposite player will. Tennis is an Olympic sport and is played at all levels of society and at all ages. Stephen Thomas Maloney (8 July 1960 – 1 March 2021) was an Australian professional tennis player. Maloney was the top ranked junior in Canberra at the age of 16 and won the national Under-19 Hardcourt Championships in 1977. He received a scholarship to play collegiate tennis for the University of Georgia and was there from 1978 to 1980, before deciding to turn professional.
