Petelo Lautusi
Petelo Lautusi is a Samoan weightlifter who has represented Samoa at the Commonwealth Games. He contested the 2019 Oceania Weightlifting Championships and 2019 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships, winning silver and bronze in the 102 kg division. At the online 2021 Oceania Weightlifting Championships he won gold in the 109 kg division. In 2022 he was one of six Samoan weightlifters to qualify for the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Olympic Weightlifting
Olympic weightlifting, or Olympic-style weightlifting (officially named Weightlifting), is a sport in which athletes compete in lifting a barbell loaded with weight plates from the ground to overhead, with each athlete trying to successfully lift the heaviest weights. Athletes compete in two specific ways of lifting the barbell overhead: these are the snatch and the clean and jerk. The ''snatch'' is a wide-grip lift, in which the weighted barbell is lifted overhead in one motion. The ''clean and jerk'' is a combination lift, in which the weight is first taken from the ground to the front of the shoulders (the clean), and then from the shoulders to overhead (the jerk). The clean and press, wherein a clean was followed by an overhead press, was formerly also a competition lift, but was discontinued due to difficulties in judging proper form. 2021 Oceania Weightlifting Championships
The 2021 Oceania Weightlifting Championships were contested from 24 to 26 September 2021. The enduring impact of COVID-19 (which required cancellation of the 2020 championships, otherwise set to be held in Nauru) led to the competition being held in various venues across Oceania with competitors and officials linked by video, as opposed to a single competition venue. It was the first time results in a virtual competition were officially endorsed by the International Weightlifting Federation. Together with that year's Pacific Games weightlifting competition and Commonwealth Championships, they were held concurrently as a single event designated the 2019 Pacific Games, Oceania & Commonwealth Championships. Commonwealth Games
The Commonwealth Games, often referred to as the Friendly Games or simply the Comm Games, are a quadrennial international multi-sport event among athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations. The event was first held in 1930, and, with the exception of 1942 and 1946 (cancelled due to World War II), have successively run every four years since. 2022 Commonwealth Games
The 2022 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXII Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Birmingham 2022, was an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth of Nations that took place in Birmingham, England between 28 July and 8 August 2022. Birmingham was announced as host on 21 December 2017.
