2021 Oceania Weightlifting Championships
The 2021 Oceania Weightlifting Championships were contested from 24 to 26 September 2021. The enduring impact of COVID-19 (which required cancellation of the 2020 championships, otherwise set to be held in Nauru) led to the competition being held in various venues across Oceania with competitors and officials linked by video, as opposed to a single competition venue. It was the first time results in a virtual competition were officially endorsed by the International Weightlifting Federation. 2019 Oceania Weightlifting Championships
The 2019 Oceania Weightlifting Championships took place at the Faleata Sports Complex in Apia, Samoa from 9 to 13 July 2019. Together with that year's Pacific Games weightlifting competition and Commonwealth Championships, they were held concurrently as a single event designated the 2019 Pacific Games, Oceania & Commonwealth Championships. Athletes from certain countries were able to contest multiple championships simultaneously (including age-group variants). Results shown below are for the senior competition only. Matthew Lydement
Matthew Lydement (born 15 January 1994) is an Australian weightlifter. After enduring several injuries playing cricket, rugby union and Australian Rules, Lydement decided to take up weightlifting. He joined the Barbell Club in Brisbane. At the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, he competed in the men's 105kg event. In 2019, he represented Australia at the Pacific Games and he competed in the men's 109kg event. Lydement represented Australia at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. Petelo Lautusi
Petelo Lautusi is a Samoan weightlifter who has represented Samoa at the Commonwealth Games. He contested the 2019 Oceania Weightlifting Championships and 2019 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships, winning silver and bronze in the 102 kg division. David Katoatau
David Katoatau (born July 17, 1984) is an I-Kiribati weightlifter. At the 2007 World Weightlifting Championships he ranked 37th in the 85 kg category, with a total of 281 kg. He ranked 4th in the 85 kg category at the 2008 Oceania Weightlifting Championships, with a total of 292 kg. Career Katoatau represented Kiribati in weightlifting at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, and also was the national flag bearer at the opening ceremony. In the Olympic tournament he ranked 15th in the 85 kg category, with a total of 313 kg. In 2012, he was the first I-Kiribati ever to qualify on merit for the Olympic Games (rather than receive a wildcard invitation), in any sport. Jack Opeloge
Jack Hitila Opeloge is a Samoan weightlifter who has represented Samoa at the Pacific Games and Commonwealth Games. Opeloge comes from a weightlifting family. His brother Niusila and his sister Ele both won gold at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, in New Delhi, while his brother Don Opeloge won silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Taniela Rainibogi
Taniela Rainibogi is a Fijian weightlifter. He participated at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in the weightlifting competition, being awarded the bronze medal in the men's 96 kg event. Rainibogi was the first person to win a medal in the weightlifting competition. He and Helen Seipua qualified to participate at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
