Per Ottesen
Per Ottesen (born 19 October 1932) is a Norwegian sports official. Hailing from Trondheim, Ottesen chaired Byåsen IL and Sør-Trøndelag District Skiing Association. In 1982 he became vice president of the Norwegian Ski Federation, being elected president in 1985. He is largely credited for landing the 1997 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships to his hometown. Ottesen also led the World Championships organizational committee; however, after falling out with managing director Carl Petter Brun, he resigned only 93 days before the opening ceremony. Trondheim
Trondheim ( , , ; sma, Tråante), historically Kaupangen, Nidaros and Trondhjem (), is a city and municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. Byåsen IL
Byåsen Idrettslag is a multi-sport club from Trondheim, Norway. It has sections for association football (one for elite, one for women's and one for grassroots football), athletics, handball (one for elite and one for grassroots handball), orienteering, Nordic skiing, and cycling. General history The club was founded on 30 October 1921, and the three clubs ''Byåsen IL'', ''Byåsen FK'' and ''Byåsen AIL'' later merged. The club colors are red and white. Handball The club has two sections for handball, the elite section named Byåsen Håndball Elite and a grassroots section. Norwegian Ski Federation
The Norwegian Ski Federation ( no, Norges Skiforbund) is headquartered in Oslo, Norway and is the national representative of the International Ski Federation. Founded on 21 February 1908, it covers the skiing disciplines of alpine, cross-country, freestyle, Nordic combined, ski jumping, and snowboarding. The organization is also involved in the promotion of skiing in Norway, cooperating with the Association for the Promotion of Skiing. 1997 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships
The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1997 took place from February 21 to March 2 at Granåsen Ski Centre in Trondheim, Norway. This event was the first time in consecutive championships that the number or type of events did not change since 1966 and 1970. It also was historical with Russia's Yelena Välbe winning gold in all five women's cross country events, the first person of either sex to do that honor. King's Medal Of Merit In Gold
The King's Medal of Merit (Norwegian: ''Kongens fortjenstmedalje'') is a Norwegian award. It was instituted in 1908 to reward meritorious achievements in the fields of art, science, business, and public service. It is divided in two classes: gold and silver. The medal in gold is rewarded for extraordinary achievements of importance to the nation and society. The medal in silver may be awarded for lesser achievements. The medal is suspended from a ribbon in the colours of the Royal Standard of Norway. The medal in gold is ranked eighth in the ranking of Norwegian orders and medals. Odd Seim-Haugen
Odd Seim-Haugen (26 June 1937 – 3 July 2015) was a Norwegian barrister and sports official. He started his own law firm in 1966, and in 1970 he became a barrister with access to work with Supreme Court cases. Outside of his legal career, he devoted his time to alpine skiing, ski jumping and cross-country skiing. He headed the organizing committees for Holmenkollen Kandahar (1970–1974), Holmenkollen Ski Festival (1977–1982) and the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1982, served as president of the Norwegian Ski Federation from 1982 to 1985 and council member of the International Ski Federation including one term as vice president. Johan Baumann
Johan Baumann (born 8 August 1934) is a Norwegian dogsledder, sports administrator and politician. He served as president of the Norwegian Ski Federation from 1987 to 1995. He won six national titles in dogsledding and was awarded the King's Cup in 1960. From 1972 to 1978 he chaired the Association for the Promotion of Skiing.
