Penzance A.F.C.
Penzance Association Football Club is a Charter Standard Football Club based in Penzance, Cornwall in the United Kingdom. They were established in 1888 and were founding members of the South Western League in 1951, and maintained membership of that league until 2007 when they joined the newly formed South West Peninsula League Division One West. In common with many other teams that play in black-and-white stripes, they are nicknamed ''The Magpies''. They currently play in the . History Penzance AFC was founded in 1888, the same year as the Football League was established. They played their first match that season against employees of the Eastern Telegraph Company, based in Porthcurno. Penzance
Penzance ( ; kw, Pennsans) is a town, civil parish and port in the Penwith district of Cornwall, United Kingdom. It is the most westerly major town in Cornwall and is about west-southwest of Plymouth and west-southwest of London. Situated in the shelter of Mount's Bay, the town faces south-east onto the English Channel, is bordered to the west by the fishing port of Newlyn, to the north by the civil parish of Madron and to the east by the civil parish of Ludgvan. Mike Tiddy
Michael Douglas Tiddy (4 April 1929 – 25 November 2009) was an English professional footballer and manager. Career Born in Cadgwith, Cornwall, Tiddy, the older of two footballing brothers joined Torquay United at the end of World War II but was forced to wait two years to play for the club while he finished his National Service. He left Torquay in November 1950 to sign for Cardiff City and he became a virtual ever-present in the Cardiff line-up for the next five years, and was one of the club's most popular players during the 1950s before moving to Arsenal in 1955 along with Gordon Nutt in exchange for Brian Walsh. Tiddy made his debut against Sunderland on 24 September 1955 but most of his time in London was spent in the treatment room as he suffered from numerous injuries, which forced him to undergo a cartilage operation. Wayne Quinn
Wayne Quinn (born 19 November 1976) is an English former professional footballer who played as a left-back. Club career Sheffield United Quinn started his career at Sheffield United, breaking into their first team in 1997. Newcastle United In 2001 Quinn was loaned to Newcastle United, who later purchased him for £800,000. After a difficult time at the club, scoring once against Lokeren in the Intertoto Cup, he was loaned back out to Sheffield United, and then West Ham United before being released on a free transfer in 2004. Tony Kellow
Tony Kellow (1 May 1952 – 20 February 2011) was an English professional footballer. He played as a forward and made over 400 Football League appearances in the 1970s and 1980s. Early career He was born in Budock Water, a village near Falmouth, and on leaving school he found employment in Falmouth Docks as an electrician, later turning out for the Falmouth Docks football side. At the age of seventeen he played in the South Western Football League for Penzance, helping them win the Cornwall Senior Cup in 1973. Gerry Gazzard
Gerald Gazzard (15 March 1925 – 29 September 2006) was an English footballer who played for West Ham United and Brentford. Gazzard was born in Cinderford, Gloucestershire and having previously played as an amateur for Penzance, and made 20 appearances for the County of Cornwall XI, Gazzard signed pro forms at West Ham United in May 1949. He made his debut on the first day of the 1949–50 season, against Luton Town, and played in a total of 37 games that season. He played in 41 games in 1950–51, one game short of being an ever-present. Gazzard moved to Brentford in 1954, after sustaining a cartilage injury and losing his first team place to John Dick. He later returned to Penzance as an amateur. The Cornwall Combination League is a football competition based in the western half of Cornwall, England, formed in 1959. The current league sponsors are drinks retailers LWC. The league has a single division of 20 clubs, being larger than any league below step 6 in the English football league system. The Champion club may apply for promotion to the St Piran Football League, West Division. The bottom clubs may be relegated to one of the level 13 leagues of the English football league system – normally the Trelawny League.
