Penny Healey
Penny Healey (born 7 March 2005) is a British archer competing in women's recurve events. She won two gold medals at the 2023 European Games in Kraków, Poland: one in the women's recurve individual event and a second in the women's recurve team event. In the 2023 season, Healey became the number one women's recurve archer in the world following an individual gold medal at Stage 1 of the 2023 Archery World Cup in Antalya, and her success at the 2023 European Games. She was a nominee for BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year 2023. The World Archery Federation (WA, also and formerly known as FITA from the French ''Fédération Internationale de Tir à l'Arc'') is the governing body of the sport of archery. It is based in Lausanne, Switzerland. It is composed of 156 national federations and other archery associations, and is recognised by the International Olympic Committee. History FITA was founded on 4 September 1931 in Lwow, Poland (today Lviv, Ukraine). Its seven founding member states were France, Czechoslovakia, Sweden, Poland, the United States, Hungary, and Italy. The aim of the organization was to create regular archery championships, and to return archery to the Olympic Games (the sport had not been featured since 1920). BBC Young Sports Personality Of The Year
The BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award is presented at the annual BBC Sports Personality of the Year award ceremony. It is awarded to the sportsperson aged 17 or under as of 1 January of that year, who has made the most outstanding contribution to sport in that year. Nominees are generally British. Non-Britons are eligible if they are UK resident, play a significant amount of sport in the United Kingdom, and their core achievements for the year took place in the UK, and were not done with a non-UK national team. Archery World Cup
The Archery World Cup is a competition, started in 2006, organized by the World Archery Federation, where the archers compete in four stages in four countries and the best eight archers of each category (from 2010, four archers during 2006-09) advance to an additional stage to contest the Archery World Cup Final.
