Pennsylvania Route 246 (PA 246) is an state highway located in McKean County in Pennsylvania. The western terminus is at PA 46 in Corwins Corners. The eastern terminus is at PA 346 in Prentisvale. Route description PA 246 begins at an intersection with PA 46 in the community of Corwins Corners in Foster Township, heading east-northeast on two-lane undivided Looker Mountain Trail. The road passes wooded homes surrounded by forested mountains, running through the community of Dallas City. The route winds east through more forested areas as it comes into Otto Township and crosses PA 646 in the community of Summit. Past this intersection, PA 246 continues southeast through more mountainous areas. Upon reaching the residential community of Rixford, the route makes a turn to the northeast and heads into a mix of farmland and rural homes. McKean County, Pennsylvania
McKean County is a rural county in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. As of the 2020 census, the population was 40,432. Its county seat is Smethport. The county was created in 1804 and organized in 1826. It was named in honor of former Pennsylvania Governor and Declaration of Independence signer Thomas McKean. McKean County comprises the Bradford, Pennsylvania micropolitan statistical area. It is in a sparsely populated region known as the Pennsylvania Wilds. It includes the Allegheny National Forest and borders New York. McKean County boasts of being "The Black Cherry Capital of the World." McKean County was founded because of its natural resources of oil and timber, both of which continue to provide a significant input to the economy. Pennsylvania Route 46 (PA 46) is a state highway located in northern Pennsylvania. The southern terminus of the route is at PA 120 in Emporium. The northern terminus is at the Bradford Bypass, carrying U.S. Route 219 (US 219) and PA 346, in Bradford, roughly two miles south of the New York-Pennsylvania border. History PA 46 was first signed in 1927, extending from U.S. Route 6 in Smethport north to US 219 in Bradford. The route was extended southward to Emporium in 1928 when the eastern segment of Pennsylvania Route 47, which ran along present-day PA 46 from PA 120 in Emporium to US 6 in Smethport, was decommissioned after only one year of service.
