Penfield High School (PHS) is a public high school in Penfield, New York, United States. It offers a comprehensive curriculum for students in grades 9–12. History Penfield Seminary The predecessor of Penfield High School was the Penfield Seminary, built in 1857 at 1836 Penfield Road, near Five Mile Line Road, in the 'Four Corners' area of Penfield. In 1874, Penfield Union Free School District No. 1 purchased the building for $2,500 (USD), and the structure was used as a public school until 1907, when it was sold to the local fire department. The building is still used by the Penfield Fire Company, and is visible behind the modern firehouse in the Four Corners. A "first commencement" program suggests an opening date of September 1896. Penfield, New York
Penfield is a town in Monroe County, New York, United States. The population was 36,242 at the 2010 census. The town was incorporated in 1810 by the proprietor Daniel Penfield, who purchased the town lands in 1795 and moved to the area in 1809. His house still stands at 1784 Penfield Road. Penfield is a suburb of Rochester. The town's motto is "A Town of Planned Progress". Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , of which is land and (1.11%) is water. Penfield is surrounded in all four directions by neighboring towns. Peter Ellstrom Deuel (February 24, 1940 – December 31, 1971), known professionally as Pete Duel, was an American stage, television, and film actor, best known for his starring role as outlaw Hannibal Heyes (alias Joshua Smith) in the television series ''Alias Smith and Jones''. Early life Duel was born in Rochester, New York, the eldest of three children born to Dr. Ellsworth and Lillian Deuel (née Ellstrom).
