Pellworm (Amt)
Pellworm is an ''Amt'' ("collective municipality") in the district of Nordfriesland, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Its seat is in Pellworm. In 2008, the administrative community office was merged with the administration of the town of Husum, whereas the Amt remains a political entity of its own. Amt (subnational Entity)
Amt is a type of administrative division governing a group of municipalities, today only in Germany, but formerly also common in other countries of Northern Europe. Its size and functions differ by country and the term is roughly equivalent to a US township or county or English shire district. Nordfriesland (; da, Nordfrisland; frr, Nordfraschlönj ), also known as North Frisia, is the northernmost district of Germany, part of the state of Schleswig-Holstein. It includes almost all of traditional North Frisia (with the exception of the island of Heligoland), as well as adjacent parts of the Schleswig Geest to the east and Stapelholm to the south, and is bounded (from the east and clockwise) by the districts of Schleswig-Flensburg and Dithmarschen, the North Sea and the Danish county of South Jutland. Pellworm
( da, Pelvorm; North Frisian ''Polweerm'') is a municipality in the district of Nordfriesland, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The municipality is located on the island of Pellworm – one of the North Frisian Islands on the North Sea coast of Germany. Its area is 37 km², and its population is roughly 1,200. A landmark is the Old Church (german: Alte Kirche) with its Arp Schnitger organ from about 1710. In medieval times Pellworm was a part of the larger island of Strand which was torn into pieces in the disastrous Burchardi flood in 1634. Other remnants of Strand are Nordstrand and the Halligen. All these belonged to the historical region of Uthlande. Pellworm is accessible by a ferry departing from the neighbouring peninsula of Nordstrand (which is in turn connected with the mainland by a road causeway). Husum
Husum (, frr, Hüsem) is the capital of the ''Kreis'' (district) Nordfriesland in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The town was the birthplace of the novelist Theodor Storm, who coined the epithet "the grey town by the sea". It is also the home of the annual international piano festival ''Raritäten der Klaviermusik'' (Rarities of Piano Music) founded in 1986. History Husum was first mentioned as ''Husembro'' in 1252, when king Abel was murdered. Like most towns on the North Sea, Husum was always strongly influenced by storm tides. In 1362 a disastrous storm tide, the "Grote Mandrenke" flooded the town and carved out the inland harbour. Before this date Husum was not situated directly on the coast. Gröde
Gröde (; da, Grøde, North Frisian language, North Frisian ''Groue'') is a municipality in the district of Nordfriesland, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. With only 7 inhabitants, the municipality, which is coterminous with the hallig it is situated on (Hallig Gröde), has the smallest population of any municipality in Germany. The inhabitants of the island make a living from tourism and limited agriculture. Hooge (; da, Hoge, North Frisian: ''Huuge'') is a municipality in the district of Nordfriesland, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The municipality is located on the island of Hooge – a small island off the coast of Germany. It is the second largest of the ten halligen in the Wadden Sea, after Langeneß. It is frequently called the Queen of the Halligen. The houses on the island are built on ten ''Warften'' ('artificial dwelling mounds'). Langeneß
( da, Langenæs, North Frisian ''Nees'') is a municipality in the district of Nordfriesland, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It consists of the halligen (islands) Langeneß and Oland. Before the flood of 1634 the two islands were directly attached. Langeneß itself has 16 Warften and is the largest Hallig. It has about 100 inhabitants and 58 households. There is a junior school and an information centre providing information about the national park and the Wadden-Sea at Peterswarf.
