Pegu (cocktail)
The Pegu Club or the Pegu is a gin-based cocktail that was the signature drink of Burma's Pegu Club. Located just outside Rangoon, the club was named after the Pegu, a Burmese river, and its members were those Britons who were senior government and military officials and prominent businessmen. History First appearance (1923) The cocktail first appeared in "Harry" of Ciro's 1923 book ''ABC of Mixing Cocktails''. The original used preserved lime juice instead of fresh. Later cocktail books, like ''The Savoy Cocktail Book'' would begin to omit the brand name "Rose's" when specifying the lime juice. There's a lack of clarity when bartenders may have begun using fresh lime juice because of this ambiguity. The Pegu Club is best served in a chilled glass and is considered a hot weather drink. Curaçao ( , ) is a liqueur flavored with the dried peel of the bitter orange laraha, a citrus fruit grown on the Dutch island of Curaçao. Curaçao can be sold in numerous forms, though the most common are the orange-hued dry Curaçao and blue Curaçao, which is dyed bright blue. Pegu Club
Pegu Club ( my, ပဲခူးကလပ်) is a recognized heritage site in Yangon, Myanmar, which was a Victorian-style Gentlemen's club founded in 1871 during the British colonization of Burma. The building was built in 1880 and finished in 1882. Pegu Club used to be a place for British officials to spend their time for a drink or two. It was well known because of its signature Pegu Club (cocktail), Pegu Club Cocktail. Rose's Lime Juice
Rose's lime juice, often known simply as Rose's, is a sweetened concentrated fruit juice patented in 1867. This was the world's first commercially produced fruit concentrate. Background In 1753, James Lind discovered that consuming citrus fruits cured people affected by scurvy, a disease rife throughout the British Navy, whose seamen often went weeks without eating fresh produce. Limes were preferred to all other citrus fruits, not because of higher vitamin C, but because they were easier to preserve. Audrey Saunders (born 1962) is an American bartender, considered one of the world's most famous bartenders and New York's most famous female bartender. Pegu Club was a craft cocktail bar in New York City, operating from 2005 to 2020. It was located on the border of SoHo and Greenwich Village in Manhattan. The bar was named after and loosely inspired by the Pegu Club, a club in a British colonial outpost in Myanmar, as well as Pegu Club (cocktail), its signature cocktail with the same name.
