Peer Qvam
Peer Hafslo Qvam (24 December 1911 – 27 July 1977) was a Norwegian architect. He was born at Holmestrand in Vestfold, Norway. He was a son of chemical engineer Olaf Hafslo Qvam (1873–1960) and his wife Sigrid Sørby (1875–1929). He enrolled as a student in 1931, and graduated in architecture from the Norwegian Institute of Technology in 1936. In 1938 he married Elsa Wik (1913-1981). He first worked for architects Johan Meyer, Dagfinn Morseth and Mads Wiel Gedde. In 1944 he started his own architect's office in Oslo. From 1946 to 1958, Qvam worked in partnership (Engh og Seip Arkitektkontor A/S) with John Engh. Qvam is especially known for his railway station architecture. Qvam and Engh won a contest to design Oslo Central Station in 1946. From 1956 he was a consultant for the municipal office that planned the Oslo Tunnel, as well as two stations in this tunnel: Elisenberg and Nationaltheatret. Holmestrand
is a town and municipality in Vestfold in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Holmestrand. The town was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). The neighboring rural municipality of Botne was merged into the municipality of Holmestrand on 1 January 1964. Sande municipality merged into Holmestrand on January 1, 2020. The municipality of Hof was merged into Holmestrand on January 1, 2018. The town lies by the Oslofjord and is built beside the water. It was granted municipal status in 1752, but had been a harbour for exporting of timber/lumber since around 1550. It borders the Oslo Fjord in the east, Tønsberg in the south, and it shares a short border with Larvik in the south-west. It is bordered by Viken in the west and north. Tøyen (station)
Tøyen is a residential area in the central parts of Oslo, Norway, part of the borough of Gamle Oslo. Location There are two different stations which carry the name Tøyen. Tøyen Railway Station is located on the Gjøvik Line, while Tøyen T-bane Station on the shared stretch just east of the downtown area. The railway station is about 750 metres northeast of the subway station. Above the Tøyen subway station is a shopping centre. Apart from the Munch Museum, there is a park north of the subway station with botanical gardens and paleontological, geological and zoological museums. Tøyen has been associated with social problems such as poverty associated with the high number of immigrants to Norway living there. Carl Berners Plass (station)
Carl Berners plass is an underground rapid transit station located on the Grorud Line of the Oslo Metro, and a tram stop on the Sinsen Line of the Oslo Tramway. The square also has a bus stop for lines 20, 21, 31 and 33. Located at Helsfyr in Oslo, Norway, the area has a mixture of apartment buildings and small businesses. Grorud Line
The Grorud Line ( no, Grorudbanen) is a line on the Oslo Metro between Tøyen and Vestli in Oslo, Norway. Built as a mix of underground, at ground level and as an elevated line, it runs through the northern part of Groruddalen, serving such neighborhoods as Grorud, Romsås and Stovner. Line 5 runs along the entire line four times per hour. Line 4 runs between Vestli and Økern before branching off on the Løren Line to get onto the Ring Line. With 40,000 daily riders, the Grorud Line is the busiest branch of the metro. Proposals for an urban railway through the upper parts of Groruddalen were first articulated in public documents in 1919.
