Pedro De Zubiaur
Pedro de Zubiaur, Zubiaurre or Çubiaurre (1540 – 3 August 1605) was a Spanish naval officer, general of the Spanish Navy, distinguished for his achievements in the Anglo-Spanish War (1585–1604). Biography Born into a seafaring family from Biscay, Zubiaur started his naval career in 1568 plying between the ports of Bilbao and Flanders, where he worked under the command of the Grand Duke of Alba. After getting promoted to General for his naval achievements in the Low Countries, during the Brittany campaign he won several battles against the English for Philip II of Spain, the most famous of them during the relief of Blaye. He captured six English ships from Raleigh's fleet near cape Finisterre in 1597. After the war, in 1605, he was put in command of 18 ships charged with transporting troops to Dunkirk but on the way they met a Dutch fleet of 80 ships under admiral Hatwain. Ziortza-Bolibar
Ziortza-Bolibar ( es, Cenarruza-Puebla de Bolívar) is a municipality in the province of Biscay, Basque Country (Spain), in the comarca of Lea-Artibai. It has 383 inhabitants according to the 2006 census, and has an area of 18.94 km². The municipality was annexed in 1969 by Markina-Xemein and recovered its independence on January 1, 2005. Records indicate its existence since the 11th century. Etymology The name ''Bolibar'' comes from the Basque language, meaning "windmill valley" (''bolu'' = "windmill" and ''ibar'' = "valley"). Brittany Campaign
The Brittany Campaign or the Campaign of Brittany was a military occupation of the Brittany region of France by Spain. It began in the summer 1590 when Philippe-Emmanuel de Lorraine, Duke of Mercœur and governor of Brittany, offered the port of Blavet to king Philip II of Spain wherein he could harbor his fleet. The occupation formally ended on May 2, 1598, with the Peace of Vervins. The Spanish used it as a base of operations to protect the treasure fleets, frustrate English naval operations, make incursions along the English coast, and aid the Catholic League, all with the ultimate goal being the invasion of England.
