Payra Railway Station
The Port of Payra is a seaport located at Kalapara in Patuakhali, Bangladesh. It was established by an Act of Parliament in 2013. The port was officially inaugurated in 2016. It is located on the Ramnabad Channel near the Bay of Bengal. The port is undergoing expansion and the project is expected to be completed in 2021. Background Payra port was originally planned as China's bid for another deep seaport in its String of Pearls strategy. The construction of the port, which was being financed on a public-private partnership (PPP) platform, was therefore granted to a Chinese company. India, Japan, and the United States opposed the plan. In 2016, Indian companies stepped in to invest in the port. An MoU was signed with Jan De Nul Group in 2016 to dredge the Ramnabad canal. Kalapara Upazila
Kalapara ( bn, কলাপাড়া , also known as Khepupara) is an upazila of Patuakhali District in the Division of Barisal, Bangladesh. History The Rakhain tribe of Bangladesh first settled in this upazila. A section of the people belonging to the Buddhist Rakhain tribe of Arakan came to this upazila in quest of better living and first settled at Khepupara and Kuakata. Tradition goes that the Rakhains on excavating wells traced fresh water in the area and thereby settled there. The Rakhain word 'kansai' means 'beach of fate'. The place was named as Kansai after this. The place was subsequently renamed as Kuakata (digging of well) after the wells dug out by the Rakhanis. The upazila though named as Kalapara, the upazila sadar is known as Khepupara. Patuakhali District
Patuakhali () is a district in South-central Bangladesh in the Barisal Division. This district is the main entrance for the beach of Kuakata. Geography It is adjacent to the Bay of Bengal. The area of the district is 3220.15 km2. Patuakhali city is surrounded on three sides by rivers. The two major rivers are Laukathi and Lohalia, which are directly connected with the Bay of Bengal. Payra Port Authority
Payra Port Authority is an autonomous port authority in charge of the third port in Port of Payra, Bangladesh, and is located in Patuakhali, Bangladesh. The chairman of the Payra port authority is Rear Admiral M Sohail. History The Port authority and the port was established on 19 November 2013 through the Payra Sea Port Act 2013. The port started commercial operations from August 2016 under the port authority. In 2016 China Harbour Engineering Company and China State Construction Engineering had signed an agreement with the authority to improve the port. The deals were worth more than US$500 million and were signed in the Ministry of Shipping in Dhaka. Patuakhali
Patuakhali ( bn, পটুয়াখালী ''Potuakhali'') is a town and district headquarter of Patuakhali District located on the southern bank of Laukathi river in the division of Barisal in Bangladesh. It is the administrative headquarter of Patuakhali district and one of the oldest towns and municipalities in the country. Patuakhali municipality was established in 1892. The town covers an area of 27.03 km2 with a population of 65,000 according to 2011 census. Title There are different opinions about the origin of the name "Patuakhali".
