Kalapara
Kalapara ( bn, কলাপাড়া , also known as Khepupara) is an upazila of Patuakhali District in the Division of Barisal, Bangladesh. History The Rakhain tribe of Bangladesh first settled in this upazila. A section of the people belonging to the Buddhist Rakhain tribe of Arakan came to this upazila in quest of better living and first settled at Khepupara and Kuakata. Tradition goes that the Rakhains on excavating wells traced fresh water in the area and thereby settled there. The Rakhain word 'kansai' means 'beach of fate'. The place was named as Kansai after this. The place was subsequently renamed as Kuakata (digging of well) after the wells dug out by the Rakhanis. The upazila though named as Kalapara, the upazila sadar is known as Khepupara. Kuakata
Kuakata ( bn, কুয়াকাটা) ( Burmese/ Rakhine/ Arakanese:ကုအာကာတ) is a town in southern Bangladesh known for its panoramic sea beach. Kuakata beach is a sandy expanse long and wide. From the beach one can have an unobstructed view of both sunrise and sunset over the Bay of Bengal. Etymology The name Kuakata originated from the word 'kua' — the Bengali word for "well" which was dug on the seashore by the early Rakhine settlers(Burmese tribes) in quest of collecting drinking water. They landed on the Kuakata coast in the 18th century after being expelled from Arakan (Myanmar) by the Burmese extremists . Andharmanik River
The Andharmanik River is located in Bangladesh. It is one of the larger coastal rivers of the Ganges–Padma system, and one of the major rivers of Kalapara Upazila in Patuakhali District. In recent years the people of Kalapara have raised their concerns regarding the gradual drying up of the river. From the total length of about , at least of the river have permanently dried out due to the sedimentation and rise of new alluviums. During the 1960s, the local government constructed many dams over Andharmanik and other nearby rivers to avoid the salination of the arable lands. Mainly from this period Andharmanik began to dry up. One of the most influential of these dams is the one over the Kochupatra river which is the source of Andharmanik. Barisal Division
Barishal Division is one of the eight administrative divisions of Bangladesh. Located in the south-central part of the country, it has an area of , and a population of 8,325,666 at the 2011 Census. Rakhine People
The Rakhine people ( my, ရက္ခိုင်လူမျိုး, : , ), also known as the Arakanese people, are a Southeast Asian ethnic group in Myanmar (Burma) forming the majority along the coastal region of present-day Rakhine State (formerly officially called Arakan), although Rakhine communities also exist throughout the country, particularly in Ayeyarwady and Yangon Regions.
