Pavel Rostovtsev
Pavel Aleksandrovich Rostovtsev (Russian: Павел Александрович Ростовцев; born 21 September 1971) is a Russian former biathlete. Life and career Rostovtsev lives in Krasnoyarsk. He is a three times world champion in biathlon. He has competed in the World Cup since the 1995–96 season. In 2000 he became World Champion with the Russian relay team in the World Championships in Lahti. The following year he won both the sprint and the pursuit in the World Championships in Pokljuka. In the 2001–02 season he came second in the overall World Cup standings. He hasn't won a single World Cup competition since the 2001–02 season. In the 2006 Olympics in Turin he was a part of the silver medal winning Russian relay team. In November 2006, Rostovtsev announced his retirement due to disagreements with the Russian Biathon Union. Gus-Khrustalny (town)
Gus-Khrustalny (russian: Гусь-Хруста́льный) is a town in Vladimir Oblast, Russia, located on the Gus River (a tributary of the Oka River) south of Vladimir, the administrative center of the oblast. Population: 65,000 (1970); 40,000 (1939); 17,900 (1926). Etymology The name of the town may be translated as "crystal goose", for it is known as one of the oldest centers of glass industry in Russia and stands on the Gus River. There are reasons to believe that its name is not derived from ''goose'' directly, but rather from the common Slavic term ''"goose"'' (in the respective languages) for a large (up to several gallons) bottle. Biathlon World Championships
The first Biathlon World Championships (BWCH) was held in 1958, with individual and team contests for men. The number of events has grown significantly over the years. Beginning in 1984, women biathletes had their own World Championships, and finally, from 1989, both genders have been participating in joint Biathlon World Championships. In 1978 the development was enhanced by the change from the large army rifle calibre to a small bore rifle, while the range to the target was reduced from 150 to 50 meters. Venues The Biathlon World Championships of the season takes place during February or March. Some years it has been necessary to schedule parts of the Championships at other than the main venue because of weather and/or snow conditions. The International Biathlon Union (IBU; german: Internationale Biathlon-Union) is the international governing body of biathlon. Its headquarters were in Salzburg, Austria, until May 2020, when the Federation moved to Anif, on the outskirts of the city. 2006 Winter Olympics
The 2006 Winter Olympics, officially the XX Olympic Winter Games ( it, XX Giochi olimpici invernali) and also known as Torino 2006, were a winter multi-sport event held from 10 to 26 February 2006 in Turin, Italy. This marked the second time Italy had hosted the Winter Olympics, the first being in 1956 in Cortina d'Ampezzo; Italy had also hosted the Summer Olympics in 1960 in Rome. Turin was selected as the host city for the 2006 Games in June 1999. The official motto of Torino 2006 was "Passion lives here". The Games' logo depicted a stylized profile of the Mole Antonelliana building, drawn in white and blue ice crystals, signifying the snow and the sky. The crystal web was also meant to portray the web of new technologies and the Olympic spirit of community. Pokljuka
The Pokljuka Plateau () is a forested karst plateau at an elevation of around , located in the Julian Alps in northwestern Slovenia. The plateau is known for its forests, mountain pastures (Javornik, Lipanca, Uskovnica, Zajamniki, etc.), and winter sports facilities. It is also a common starting point for mountain hikers. The yearly Biathlon World Cup meets are held at the Pokljuka Biathlon Center, west of the town of Bled ( by car). Pokljuka is part of Triglav National Park.
