Paul L. Stein
Paul Ludwig Stein (4 February 1892 – 2 May 1951) was an Austrian-born film director with 67 films to his credit. Stein began his career in Berlin in 1918 and worked exclusively in the German silent film industry until 1926, when he first went to Hollywood, and spent the next five years commuting between Germany and the U.S., where he worked with stars such as Jeanette MacDonald, Lillian Gish and Constance Bennett. In 1931, Stein relocated to England after gaining a contract with British International Pictures, where he was assigned a number of big-name prestige productions, including some of the popular operetta films of the mid-1930s. These included '' Blossom Time'' and '' Heart's Desire'' starring his boyhood friend Richard Tauber, who also made cameo appearances in two of his post-war films ''Waltz Time'' and '' Lisbon Story''. For most his career, Stein's credits tended to be films primarily aimed at female audiences, although later he also directed crime and spy th ...

She starred as Princess Alexandra, with Conrad Nagel as the tutor who falls in love with her, and Rod La Rocque as Crown Prince Albert. The film was only fairly successful, though Gish would go on to become as highly regarded in talking pictures as she had been in silent films. My Official Wife (1926 Film)
''My Official Wife'' is a 1926 silent film by Austrian director Paul L. Stein, and his first American film. It stars Irene Rich and Conway Tearle. It is an adaptation of the 1891 novel ''My Official Wife'' by Richard Henry Savage (which had been filmed once before in 1914 by the Vitagraph Company of America with Clara Kimball Young as the lead), but the storyline was updated to include World War I. Cast Reception Reviews were extremely mixed. '' Film Daily'' compiled newspaper review quotes upon the film's release (as it did for many releases), citing the ''New York American'' as stating it was "repulsive ... players are badly miscast." The '' Daily News'' called it "worth going to see ... well acted, well directed and nicely dressed up bit of screen hokum." The ''Evening World'' called it a "matinee picture for unhurried chocolate munchers ... too long and too slow moving," and the ''Morning Telegraph ''Morning Telegraph'' may refer to: * ''Sheffield Telegraph'', known as ...
