Paul Harding (English Footballer)
Paul John Harding (born 6 March 1964) is an English former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He played 119 games in the Football League representing Notts County, Southend United, Watford, Birmingham City and Cardiff City. Playing career Harding was born in Mitcham, Surrey. He began his football career as an apprentice with Chelsea, but did not progress to the first team,Matthews, p. 93. and worked as a bricklayer, playing part-time for a number of non-league clubs in the Surrey and south London area before joining Enfield of the Conference National, with whom he won the FA Trophy in 1988. In February 1990 he moved to Conference runners-up Barnet, and in September of the same year he and teammate Dave Regis signed for Notts County, newly promoted to the Football League Second Division.Matthews, p. 93. Midfielder
A midfielder is an outfield position in association football. Midfielders may play an exclusively defensive role, breaking up attacks, and are in that case known as defensive midfielders. Philip Turner (born 12 February 1962) is an English retired footballer. Turner, a central midfielder, began his career at Lincoln City with whom he won promotion to the Third Division in 1981 under Colin Murphy, and formed midfield partnerships with Glenn Cockerill and then Neil Redfearn before joining Grimsby Town in 1986. The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. In sports leagues, promotion and relegation is a process where teams are transferred between multiple divisions based on their performance for the completed season. Leagues that use promotion and relegation systems are often called open leagues. In a system of promotion and relegation, the best-ranked team(s) in the lower division are ''promoted'' to the higher division for the next season, and the worst-ranked team(s) in the higher division are ''relegated'' to the lower division for the next season. David Regis (born 3 March 1964) is an English retired professional footballer who played as a striker. He scored 53 goals from 237 appearances in the Football League in the 1990s, notably for Stoke City and Notts County. Playing career Regis was born in Paddington, London. He began his playing career in non-league football with clubs including Dunstable Town, Fisher Athletic, Windsor & Eton and Barnet. The Football Association Challenge Trophy, commonly known as the FA Trophy, is a men's football knockout cup competition run by and named after the English Football Association and competed for primarily by semi-professional teams. Non-league
Non-League football describes football leagues played outside the top leagues of a country. Usually, it describes leagues which are not fully professional. The term is primarily used for football in England, where it is specifically used to describe all football played at levels below those of the Premier League (20 clubs) and the three divisions of the English Football League (EFL; 72 clubs). Currently, a non-League team would be any club playing in the National League or below that level.
