Paul Conroy (Gaelic Footballer)
Paul Conroy (born 22 May 1989) is an Irish Gaelic footballer and teacher who plays at senior level for the Galway county team. Conroy was captain of the All-Ireland winning Minor team in 2007 when they narrowly defeated Derry. Conroy made his Senior championship debut against Roscommon and scored finished the game with a tally of 0–6. Conroy won an Galway Intermediate Club Championship with St James' in 2010 and followed that up with a Connacht title. He played twice for Ireland against Australia in the 2013 International Rules Series. Conroy was named as Galway captain for the 2014 season. He is an Irish and business teacher at Coláiste Bhaile Chláir in Claregalway. His fellow teammate Damien Comer also teaches in the school. The Irish language has been an integral part of Conroy's life as his parents hail from the Connemara Gaeltacht. Gaeltacht
( , , ) are the districts of Ireland, individually or collectively, where the Irish government recognises that the Irish language is the predominant vernacular, or language of the home. The ''Gaeltacht'' districts were first officially recognised during the 1920s in the early years of the Irish Free State, following the Gaelic Revival, as part of a government policy aimed at restoring the Irish language. Gary O'Donnell (Gaelic Footballer)
Gary O'Donnell (born 6 January 1988) is an Irish sportsperson, who plays inter-county Gaelic football for Galway. He is a first cousin of double All-Ireland-winning former Galway footballer and two-time All Star Jarlath Fallon. O'Donnell's parents are both from County Mayo and he has uncles who have played football for that county at a number of levels. O'Donnell, who first played football with St Colman's, Gort, also played hurling in his youth and was on the same under-age teams as later Galway senior inter-county players Aidan Harte and Greg Lally. Gort's football team disbanded in 2009 and O'Donnell moved to Tuam Stars, as it was the club his cousins, the Fallons, played for. Having been an unused substitute in Galway's 2008 Connacht final victory over Mayo, O'Donnell made his inter-county debut with in 2009. Finian Hanley
Finian Hanley (born 4 January 1985) is a former Gaelic football player from Galway. He played his club football with Salthill-Knocknacarra and inter-county football for Galway from 2005 to 2017. He played in the full-back position. In 2008 he was nominated for an All Stars Award. Inter-county In 2005, Hanley was a member of Galway's Under-21 All-Ireland winning team, winning the final against Down with inspired performances from Michael Meehan, Barry Cullinane and club team-mate Seán Armstrong. After being a key figure in Galway's successful Minor and Under-21 teams of recent years, Hanley made his Senior debut against Mayo in the 2005 Connacht SFC Final. The Electric Ireland All-Ireland Minor Football Championship is the premier under-17 "knockout" competition in Gaelic football played in Ireland. 2017 was the final year of the minor under 18 football championship as it were replaced by an under 17 championship following a vote at the GAA congress on 26 February 2016. The series of games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association and are played during the summer months with the All-Ireland Minor Football Final being played on the third Sunday in September in Croke Park, Dublin as the curtain-raiser to the senior final. The GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship, known simply as the All-Ireland Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). Connacht Senior Football Championship
The Connacht Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition for the senior county teams of Connacht GAA. All of the counties of Connacht participate in the championship, as well as counties London and New York. The winning team receives the Nestor Cup. The Connacht Senior Football Championship is run on a knock-out basis in which once a team loses they are eliminated from the competition. A series of games are played during the summer months and the final is played in June or July. The winner progresses directly to the All-Ireland Super 8s, while losing teams progress to the All-Ireland Qualifiers (before 2001 the All-Ireland was a straight knock-out format meaning all losing teams were eliminated after a single defeat).
