Paul Albert Leitner
Paul Albert Leitner (born 1957 in Jenbach) is a photographer from Austria. Biography Paul Albert Leitner trained as a photographer from 1973 to 1976; in 1984 he moved from Tyrol to Vienna and has worked as a freelance artist ever since. His photography is strongly influenced by his travels, he is said to keep "a travel diary in the photographic medium". For photography historian Marie Röbl, Leitner made a development from "staged photography, dedicated above all to a 'search for one’s own self-cognizance’ by means of collages, repainting, mirroring techniques, projections and shadow play”, to traditional “straight photography". Because of his pronounced drive to collect things photographically and in other ways, "he has to face an ever increasing torrent of images” and various other items he gathered while travelling, which he deals with “through an encyclopedic drive for ordering and cataloguing his inventory”. Jenbach
Jenbach is a municipality in the district of Schwaz in the Austrian state of Tyrol (state), Tyrol. Etymology Many inhabitants of Jenbach believe that the name "Jenbach" is derived from "Jenseits des Baches", which means "Beyond the brook", however earlier versions of the name, for instance "Umbach" suggest that it could also be derived from "Um den Bach [herum]", which means "Around the brook". Gilbert Prousch, sometimes referred to as Gilbert Proesch (born 17 September 1943 in San Martin de Tor, Italy), and George Passmore (born 8 January 1942 in Plymouth, United Kingdom), are two artists who work together as the collaborative art duo Gilbert & George. The Österreichische Galerie Belvedere is a museum housed in the Belvedere palace, in Vienna, Austria. The Belvedere palaces were the summer residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy (1663–1736). The ensemble was built in the early eighteenth century by the famous Baroque architect, Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt, and comprises the Upper and Lower Belvedere, with the Orangery and Palace Stables, as well as extensive gardens. The Vienna Secession (german: Wiener Secession; also known as ''the Union of Austrian Artists'', or ''Vereinigung Bildender Künstler Österreichs'') is an art movement, closely related to Art Nouveau, that was formed in 1897 by a group of Austrian painters, graphic artists, sculptors and architects, including Josef Hoffman, Koloman Moser, Otto Wagner and Gustav Klimt. The Tyrolean State Museum (german: Tiroler Landesmuseum), also known as the Ferdinandeum after Archduke Ferdinand, is located in Innsbruck, Austria. It was founded in 1823 by the Tyrolean State Museum Ferdinandeum Society (''Verein Tiroler Landesmuseum Ferdinandeum''). Otto Breicha Award
The Otto Breicha Award for Photographic Arts is awarded every two years by Museum der Moderne Salzburg to photographers from or living in Austria. The Award was first established in 1983 under the name 'Rupertinum Photo Prize'. The Salzburg Museum Rupertinum (which is now part of Museum der Moderne Salzburg) was co-founded by its first director Otto Breicha. The prize was awarded every two years until 2001. After a hiatus the prize was revived in 2007 and renamed "Otto Breicha Prize for Photographic Art" in memory of Otto Breicha's early promotion of photography as an art form, which was still not very popular at the time. It was reconceptualized so that it is not longer only awarded for pure photography, but also recognizes the role of photography in media contexts.
