Passenger (Lisa Hannigan Album)
''Passenger'' is the second and Choice Music Prize nominated album from Irish singer-songwriter Lisa Hannigan. The album was released in the US and Canada on 20 September 2011 and in the Republic of Ireland on 7 October 2011 (brought forward from the originally scheduled date, 21 October). The LP features 11 new tracks. The album was self-released in Ireland and UK through her label, Hoop Records. The album was released in North America through Barp-ATO Records and later for Europe in 2012 on PIAS Recordings. In 2012 it was awarded a silver certification from the Independent Music Companies Association, which indicated sales of at least 20,000 copies throughout Europe. Recording Writing for the album began in late 2009 and throughout 2010 in Ireland and the US. Lisa Margaret Hannigan (born 12 February 1981) is an Irish musician, singer, composer, and voice actress. She began her musical career as a member of Damien Rice's band. Since beginning her solo career in 2007 she has released three albums: ''Sea Sew'' (2008), ''Passenger'' (2011), and ''At Swim'' (2016). Hannigan's music has received award nominations both in Ireland and the United States. Hannigan also received attention in North America for her role as Blue Diamond in ''Steven Universe'', an American animated television series created by Rebecca Sugar. Early life and education Hannigan was born in Dublin but grew up in Kilcloon, County Meath, Ireland. The Official Charts (legal name: The Official UK Charts Company Limited) is a British inter-professional organization that compiles various "official" record charts in the United Kingdom, Ireland and France. In the United Kingdom, its charts include ones for singles, albums and films, with the data compiled from a mixture of downloads, purchases (of physical media) and streaming. The Official Albums Chart is a list of albums ranked by physical and digital sales and (from March 2015) audio streaming in the United Kingdom. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on UKChartsPlus as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. However, even though number 100 was classed as a hit album (as in the case of The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums) in the 1980s until January 1989, since the compilations were removed this definition was changed to Top 75 with follow-up books such as The Virgin Book of British Hit Albums book only including this data. The Irish Independent Albums Chart (also known as Independent Artist Albums or Top 20 Indie Albums) is a chart of best-selling independent album releases in Ireland. It is issued weekly by the Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA) and complied on its behalf by GfK's Chart-Track. Chart rankings are based upon album sales compiled through electronically captured retail data each day from retailers' EPOS systems and certain digital retailers. Sales from major retailers, including HMV, Virgin, Tower and Golden Discs, were once excluded from the chart but data from major retailers and over forty other independent retailers now compose the chart.
