Pashto Cinema
Pashto cinema ( ps, د پښتو سينما; ps, پالېوډ), also known as Pollywood, refers to the film industry based in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, enagaged in production of motion pictures in Pashto language. The industry is a part of the larger Pakistani cinema. Origins Yousuf Khan Sher Bano was the first-ever Pashto film produced in Pakistan and released in theaters on 1 December 1970. It was directed by Aziz Tabassum, with debut stars Yasmin Khan and Badar Munir. The story is based on the Pashto folk story '' Yousuf Khan and Sher Bano'' and completed 50 weeks at number 1 in Peshawar. Revival In 2015, Sanober Qaiser's film ''Sartez Badmash'' was released at two cinemas in Kabul and ''Pakhtun Pay Dubai'' was released in Dubai as well as Kabul. In 2013, the first high definition Pashto film Zama Arman was released. The Pashto media includes Pashto literature, Pashto-language newspapers, magazines, television and radio stations, as well as Pashto films and Pashto internet. Pashto media involves the Pashtuns of Pakistan, Afghanistan and the Pashtun diaspora around the world. Pashto literature and poetry Pashto is not only the name of a language, but it comprises all traditions, norms and values of the Pashtun people. The history of Pashto language comprises thousands of years. It is widely believed among the Pashtuns that the earliest written Pashto poems were written in the 8th century CE by Amir Kror Suri of Ghor, Afghanistan. Reham Khan
Reham Nayyar Khan (Urdu/Pashto: ; born 3 April 1973) is a British-Pakistani journalist, author, and filmmaker from Baffa, Pakistan. She is a former wife of Imran Khan, who later became Prime Minister of Pakistan in 2018, The publication of her memoir shortly before the 2018 Pakistani general election led to claims that its publication was intended to damage Imran Khan's electoral prospects. Mardān (Pashto and ; Urdu ; Pashto: ) is a city in the Mardan District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, Pakistan. Located in the Valley of Peshawar, Mardan is the second-largest city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (after Peshawar). Mingora ( ps, مینګورہ, ur, ) is a city in the Swat District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Located on the Swat River, it is the 3rd largest city in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the 26th largest in Pakistan. Yusuf Khan And Sherbano
''Yusuf Khan and Sherbano'' is a famous Pashtun amorous folktale. Its format is an extended narrative described as ''qissa'' or ''dastan''. It is listed along with '' Adam Khan and Durkhanai'', ''Ramadad Khan'', and ''Ajab Khan'' as one of the important Pashto ''dastans'' which are available as chapbooks or in audio formats. The tale has also been termed as the Pukhtun version of ''Romeo and Juliet''. Development The story of Yusuf Khan and Sherbano was put to verse by poet Ali Haidar Joshi (Joshi was a pen name) in the 1960s and was turned into a film, ''Yousuf Khan Sher Bano'', released in 1970. The poem was translated into French by Benedict Johnson (in 1982) and into English by Heston and Nasir (in 1988).
