Timpuri Noi
Timpuri Noi is a Romanian alternative rock band. History Timpuri Noi was formed in 1980, and remained an underground act up until 1991. This was mainly due to what was perceived as "subversive lyrical content" in the Ceauşescu era. Incidentally, the name derives from a cliché of the period: its literal meaning is "New Times" (in the sense of "New Age"), used to signify Marxist Socialism. The tongue-in-cheek reference is somehow associated with the Bucharest metro station of the same name (see: Timpuri Noi). The name is also the Romanian translation of Modern Times, the title for Charles Chaplin's classic 1936 film. In the early nineties, up to around 1995, the band was arguably the top Romanian act. Iris (Romanian Band)
Iris is a Romanian rock band established in February 1977 by Ioan 'Nelu' Dumitrescu (drums), Ion 'Nuțu' Olteanu (lead solo guitar and vocals) and Emil Lechințeanu (bass guitar). They achieved success, followed by tours throughout Romania and recordings for radio broadcast. At the 2006 MTV Romania Music Awards, Iris won the Best Rock Award and were nominated for Best Band and Best Live Act. Krypton (band)
Krypton is a Romanian rock band formed in 1982 by Eugen Mihăescu. History With the original line-up consisting of Eugen Mihăescu (guitars), Gabriel Golescu (guitar), Mihai Rotaru (drums) and George Lungu (bass), they managed to release their first songs on the Romanian state sanctioned Electrecord label's, "Formații rock 7" compilation in 1982. Following a major line-up change, bass player Dragoș Docan, drummer Liviu Pop and vocalist Marius Voicu join the band, laying the foundation for the more well-known group. After being invited to numerous events, even securing a slot at the famous Cenaclul Flacăra, the group managed to sign a deal with Electrecord, releasing their first LP, "30 minute". Their sound at this time was keyboard driven new wave inspired melodic hard rock.
