Parry Sound—Muskoka is a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1949. The riding consists of the Territorial District of Parry Sound (excluding the Town of Powassan, the townships of Nipissing and North Himsworth, and the part of the Town of Killarney contained in the district), the District Municipality of Muskoka, and the part of the Town of Kearney lying in the Territorial District of Nipissing. In 2004, Liberal Andy Mitchell was elected Member of Parliament for the district, and was the Minister of Agriculture. Parry Sound was a federal electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1904 to 1949. It was located in the province of Ontario. This riding was first created in 1903 from parts of Muskoka and Parry Sound riding. It consisted of the territorial district of Parry Sound. Nipissing was a federal electoral district that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1896 to 2004. It was located in the northeastern part of Ontario, Canada. When it was first created, the riding took in the eastern half of Northeastern Ontario, including the towns of North Bay and Sudbury. Before 1892, this region was part of the electoral district of Renfrew North. It initially consisted of the temporary judicial district of Nipissing, and the townships of Head, Clara and Maria in the county of Renfrew, and a part of the district of Algoma. Muskoka was a federal electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1872 to 1882 and from 1904 to 1925. It was located in the province of Ontario. This riding was first created from part of Victoria North and from areas that until then were unrepresented. Tony Peter Clement (born January 27, 1961) is a Canadian former federal politician and former Member of Parliament for Parry Sound—Muskoka in Ontario. Before entering federal politics, Clement served as an Ontario cabinet minister, including as Minister of Health and Long-Term Care under premiers Mike Harris and Ernie Eves. Moving to federal politics, he was a candidate for the leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada after its formation from the merger of the Progressive Conservative and Canadian Alliance parties in 2003. He lost to Stephen Harper. Clement won the seat of Parry Sound—Muskoka in the 2006 federal election, defeating incumbent Liberal cabinet minister Andy Mitchell. Andrew Mitchell, (born April 21, 1953) is a Canadian politician. He served in the House of Commons of Canada from 1993 to 2006, representing Parry Sound—Muskoka as a member of the Liberal Party. He was a minister in the government of Jean Chrétien and a cabinet minister in the government of Paul Martin. Early life and career Mitchell was born in Montreal, Quebec, and has a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Carleton University (1972).
