Parry Sound CPR Trestle
The Parry Sound CPR Trestle crosses the valley of the Seguin River, just upstream of the river's mouth at Parry Sound on Georgian Bay, as well as Great North Road, Bay, and Gibson streets in the town of Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada. Completed in by the Canadian Pacific Railway, the trestle is long and high. The first scheduled train passed over the span in 1908. In July 1914, Tom Thomson (who inspired the Group of Seven) visited Parry Sound and painted the bridge and the former Parry Sound Lumber Company. Today the trestle provides northbound rail traffic for both the Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railway and the Canadian National Railway while all southbound traffic uses Canadian National trackage. Seguin River
The Seguin River is a river in Parry Sound District in central Ontario, Canada that empties into Parry Sound on Georgian Bay, Lake Huron at the town of Parry Sound. The river's name comes from the Ojibwe word ''ziigwan'', meaning "spring". Course The Seguin River begins at Horn Lake near the community of Bear Lake in the municipality of McMurrich/Monteith. Parry Sound is a town in Ontario, Canada, located on the eastern shore of the sound after which it is named. Parry Sound is located south of Sudbury and north of Toronto. Parry Sound is a sound or bay of Georgian Bay on Lake Huron, in Ontario, Canada. It is highly irregularly shaped with many deep bays and islands. Killbear Provincial Park is located on the large peninsula that separates the sound from Georgian Bay, while it is bordered on the south side by Parry Island, home of the Wasauksing First Nation, Wasauksing being the First Nation's name for the bay. Georgian Bay (french: Baie Georgienne) is a large bay of Lake Huron, in the Laurentia bioregion. It is located entirely within the borders of Ontario, Canada. The main body of the bay lies east of the Bruce Peninsula and Manitoulin Island. To its northwest is the North Channel. Tom Thomson
Thomas John Thomson (August 5, 1877July 8, 1917) was a Canadian artist active in the early 20th century. During his short career, he produced roughly 400 oil sketches on small wood panels and approximately 50 larger works on canvas. His works consist almost entirely of landscapes, depicting trees, skies, lakes, and rivers. He used broad brush strokes and a liberal application of paint to capture the beauty and colour of the Ontario landscape. Thomson's accidental death by drowning at 39 shortly before the founding of the Group of Seven is seen as a tragedy for Canadian art. Raised in rural Ontario, Thomson was born into a large family of farmers and displayed no immediate artistic talent. He worked several jobs before attending a business college, eventually developing skills in penmanship and copperplate writing. The Group of Seven, once known as the Algonquin School, was a group of Canadian landscape painters from 1920 to 1933, originally consisting of Franklin Carmichael (1890–1945), Lawren Harris (1885–1970), A. Y. Jackson (1882–1974), Frank Johnston (1888–1949), Arthur Lismer (1885–1969), J. E. H. MacDonald (1873–1932), and Frederick Varley (1881–1969). Later, A. J.
